Overview
Setup covers registering an Azure application, configuring permissions, generating a client ID and secret, and creating the integration in TrunkText.
Who Can Do This
✅ Business Admin — can set up and manage integrations across the business.
✅ Project Manager — can manage integrations within their assigned projects.
Requirements
Administrator Access in Microsoft Azure
Chrome recommended
Register Azure Application
Navigate to the Azure Portal and log in as an Administrator and Select "App Registrations" from the menu or search for it at the top
Click "New Registration":
Fill out the registration form with the following options and click "Register" at the bottom:
Enter a name for your application (e.g. TrunkText)
Select "Accounts in this organizational directory only (Trunk Tools only - Single tenant)"
Configure Application Permissions
After creating the application above, you will be redirected to the application configuration experience.
In the menu on the left, expand Manage, click "API Permissions", and then click "Add a permission" at the top of the table:
From the panel that opens:
Select "Microsoft Graph API"
Choose "Application Permissions"
Search for "Sites.read.all"
Expand the "Sites" section
Select the "Sites.Read.All" permission
Click "Apply Permissions"
As a final step, we need to verify if the permissions are ready. From the permission table, find the "Sites.Read.All" row, and check for a warning icon in the "Status" column.
If it has a warning icon, you will need to click "Grant admin consent" at the top of the table. You will need to be an administrator to perform this action.
Generate Client ID and Secret
From the left menu, select "Certificates & secrets", then click "New client secret":
From the panel, enter a name for the client and secret (e.g. "Trunk Tools Integration"), and select a expiration. We recommend 12 months to prevent lapses in data sent to Trunk Tools:
From the table, take note of the Value column as it will be used later:
With the secret value copied and noted, return to the "Overview" page and also take note of the Application (client) ID and Directory (tenant) ID:
Ensure you have both the Secret Value, Client ID, and Tenant ID noted down before proceeding.
The last pieces of information we need to collect before setting up the integration is the site hostname and path:
Go to the Sharepoint Site you want to connect to TrunkText
Take a look at the URL to grab the pieces of information required
An example URL: https://trunkie.sharepoint.com/sites/testproject
Hostname is
trunkie.sharepoint.comSite path is
/sites/testproject
Create new integration in TrunkText
Navigate to Trunktext.com and sign in
Click the project name in the top-left corner and select the project you want to integrate
Select Integrations on your left navigation bar
Click + Add New Integration and select SharePoint as the source system and continue
The next step will prompt you to create a new connection or, if you've connected SharePoint before, reuse an existing one. Connections can be used across multiple projects, so we recommend using a general name rather than a project-specific one
If you're connecting to a Azure application that's been previously set up (e.g. just adding another integration to a different project), we recommend you re-use the existing connection
If you're connecting to a new Azure application (e.g. different tenant ID) or you have no existing connections, create a new one
When naming a connection, we recommend including some sort of description that allows you to identify it in the future (e.g. "Azure Tenant ID 2ef1"), to help you determine if you need a new connection in the future
Once you've created a new connection or selected from an existing one, click "Next", and a form will appear.
If you chose an existing connection:
If the existing connection form has a "Connected" status, you can simply click next here
If the existing connection form does not have a "Connected" status, you will need to re-enter the secret ID, secret value, and click "Reconnect"
If you created a new connection:
Optional to enter a nickname for your connection, this will display in addition to the Azure application details for future connections
Enter the Directory (tenant) ID from your Azure application in the "Directory (tenant) ID" field
Enter the Application (client) ID from your Azure application in the "Application (client) ID" field
Enter the Client Secret Value from your Azure application in the "Client Secret Value" field
Click "Connect" and click "Next" after the connection is established:
In the form that appears, enter the site hostname and path that we collected in previous steps, and the click "Fetch Libraries".
We will fetch a list of available drives and populate the dropdown. Select the respective library and then click "Next":
The final step is to determine if you want to scope the integration only to certain root folders. Generally, users want all folders pulled in, so you can leave this field blank, but if you only want certain folders to be pulled in, you can specify their paths here (e.g. general/drawings):
FAQS
How quickly will changes in SharePoint be reflected in TrunkText?
You can typically expect to see events reflected in TrunkText within 20 minutes, but based on the volume of changes, the size of files, and other factors, it could take longer.
