Overview
This guide walks through how to set up a connection between Dropbox and TrunkText so your Dropbox files sync into Trunk Tools.
Who Can Do This
✅ Business Admin — can set up and manage integrations across the business.
✅ Project Manager — can manage integrations within their assigned projects.
— Project Member — cannot manage integrations.
Requirements
Dropbox Admin access: Dropbox Administrator Access
Recommended: Use a service account not tied to a specific individual to avoid permission changes and reauthentication issues
Open Manage Integrations in TrunkText
Sign into your TrunkText account and ensure the project you want to integrate with has been selected from the project selection menu in the top-left, then click "Documents & Data Sync Status"
Create a New Dropbox Integration
From the Integrations page, quickly confirm you're in the right project by looking at the project name listed at the top of the page, and then click "Add New Integration" in the top left
Select Dropbox from the list of available integrations and click next
The next step will prompt you to create a new connection or, if you've connected Dropbox before, reuse an existing one. Connections can be used across multiple projects, so we recommend using a general name rather than a project-specific one
Configure Dropbox Scopes and Grant Access
Select the following scopes, then click "Connect"
Individual Scopes:
files.metadata.readfiles.content.read
Team Scopes:
team_data.content.readmembers.read
This will prompt you to log in with your Dropbox credentials. If using a service account, use the service account credentials at this step
Click next once your connection is established and your integration will begin to initialize
Complete Setup
In about 30 seconds or so, you will see that integration transition from the "Initializing" state to the "Ready" state and you can now click on the "Complete Setup" button
In the form that appears, enter your Dropbox project name and click "Submit"
⚠️ IMPORTANT NOTE: After submitting, please email your Trunk Tools technical representative, or support@trunk.tools to let us know you're ready and we will then trigger the sync on our end
FAQs
How quickly will changes in Dropbox be reflected in TrunkText?
You can typically expect changes to appear within 20 minutes. Depending on file volume and size, it may take longer.
Do I need to use a service account?
It's strongly recommended. A service account prevents disruptions if an individual's permissions change or if they leave your organization.
Who do I contact if I run into issues?
Reach out to your Trunk Tools technical representative or email support@trunk.tools.
