TrunkRFI FAQ
The most frequently asked questions about TrunkRFI, the Prevent RFIs + Draft agent. If you're new to the agent, start with the Getting Started Guide.
1.) What is TrunkRFI?
TrunkRFI is the Prevent RFIs + Draft agent. When a question comes in, it searches your project documents, specs, drawings, submittals, addenda, and past RFIs, to figure out whether an RFI is actually needed. If the answer already exists, TrunkRFI surfaces it so you can avoid an unnecessary RFI. If it doesn't, TrunkRFI drafts the RFI for you and writes it back to Procore or Autodesk Forma, ready for you to review and submit.
2.) What problem does it solve?
Two of them. It stops unnecessary RFIs before they go out, questions that were already answered somewhere in your documents, and it gets the necessary ones out the door faster by drafting them for you. That means less time digging through documents and fewer RFIs clogging the review cycle.
3.) What are the two possible outcomes?
Answer found: The question is already addressed in your project documents, or a similar RFI has already been submitted and answered. TrunkRFI shows you the existing RFI or the documents that respond to it, and you can close or void the draft RFI directly from TrunkRFI, no need to go back to Procore or Autodesk Forma.
No answer found: The RFI looks like it's needed. TrunkRFI drafts it and writes it back to your Procore or Autodesk Forma so you can review and submit.
4.) How do I use it? Are there different ways to start?
There are two, and both run the same analysis. The difference is just where you start:
Ask a question directly. Go to TrunkRFI and type your question into the "Do I need an RFI?" box. The agent runs immediately and shows you what it found. This is the best starting point when a subcontractor flags a question or conflict and you want to check the documents before creating an RFI.
Automatic analysis from a draft RFI. If your project lets subcontractors create draft RFIs in Procore or Autodesk Forma, TrunkRFI picks them up automatically and runs its analysis in the background. You don't need to do anything to trigger it.
5.) Which trigger should I use?
Whichever fits the moment. Ask directly when you have a question and want to check before creating an RFI. Rely on the automatic trigger to catch RFIs your subcontractors have already drafted in Procore or Autodesk Forma. Both run the same underlying analysis.
6.) Which integrations does TrunkRFI support?
Procore and Autodesk Forma (ACC). Trigger statuses are configured per integration, so if you have more than one connection on a project you can set them independently.
7.) Will I be notified when the agent finds something?
Yes. When the automatic trigger finds that a draft RFI may be unnecessary, you'll get an email as soon as the results are ready. The email includes the RFI title, a summary of what was found, and a link to view the full analysis in TrunkRFI.
8.) What's on the TrunkRFI home page?
Below the question box there are two sections:
RFIs that may already be answered: Draft RFIs from your PMS where the agent found a potential answer in your documents. Open any row to review the supporting evidence and decide whether to close, void, or keep the RFI open.
History: A running record of every RFI and question TrunkRFI has analyzed on the project, both the ones you asked directly and the ones that came in automatically.
9.) Can I control which RFI statuses trigger the agent?
Yes. Click Manage Agent in the top-right corner of TrunkRFI, then open Agent Info & Settings. By default the agent triggers on Draft RFIs, which is the recommended setting for most teams because it catches questions early. You can also enable Open or other statuses per integration, then click Update Agent. If no statuses are checked for an integration, the agent won't run automatically for it and you'll see a warning that no analysis will run.
10.) How do I control who has access?
Open Manage Agent and go to the Users tab. Add team members there so they can view analyses, ask questions, and take action on RFIs for the project.
11.) What email notification options do I have?
Each user sets their own preferences under Manage Agent > Email Notifications. There are four options:
Email me when potential answers are detected — any time the agent finds an existing answer for a draft RFI.
Email me about detected potential answers assigned to selected subcontractors — only for RFIs where the subcontractors you choose are listed.
Email me when I am the RFI manager — only for RFIs where you're the responsible manager.
Don't send me email notifications — turns emails off entirely.
12.) What does TrunkRFI not do yet?
A couple of things are outside the scope of this release:
RFI response impact analysis. We're building a separate RFI Impact agent for this.
Subcontractor self-service. Only you have access to the agent, not your subcontractors.
13.) How accurate is it?
TrunkRFI is AI and can make mistakes. Always verify the agent's findings against the source documents before closing an RFI or making a decision. If the agent gets something wrong, let us know, your feedback directly improves accuracy.
14.) How do I get TrunkRFI enabled on my project?
Access is managed by your project manager, who adds users from the Users tab in the Agent Manager. If TrunkRFI isn't available on your project yet or you're not sure whether it's enabled, reach out to your CSM.
