TrunkSubmittal FAQ
The most frequently asked questions about TrunkSubmittal, the submittal review agent. For full workflow-integration setup steps, see the Autodesk Forma (ACC) & Procore Submittal Workflows article.
1.) What is TrunkSubmittal?
TrunkSubmittal is the submittal review agent. It reviews submittals from your connected Procore or Autodesk Forma (ACC) project against the relevant spec sections and returns a compliance finding with a written analysis, so review keeps moving without the manual slog. Your team still owns the final approval.
2.) What problem does it solve?
Submittal review is slow and easy to bottleneck. TrunkSubmittal reviews the submittal as soon as it reaches the agent and always responds, so submittals keep moving and material procurement stays on schedule.
3.) How does a submittal reach TrunkSubmittal?
It depends on how the submittal comes in. There are two everyday paths, plus an optional workflow setup:
Trades or your team upload straight to Procore or Autodesk — TrunkSubmittal detects the new submittal automatically and starts the review, no extra steps. In Procore it picks up any status except Closed or Void; in Autodesk the item needs to be in Manager Review or Under Review. Linking the spec section helps, but the agent can now infer the right spec if it's missing or mis-tagged.
You got the submittal by email (or have it on your computer) — you have two options: upload it into Procore or Autodesk as an open or draft submittal so it syncs automatically, or upload it straight into TrunkSubmittal using the manual upload button in the app for an immediate review.
Optional — post responses back into your PMS automatically: teams that want the review written back into their Procore or Autodesk workflow can add TrunkSubmittal as a reviewer step. When it's TrunkSubmittal's turn, the PMS notifies it, the review runs, the response posts back as a PDF, and the workflow advances. This is optional and isn't required to use TrunkSubmittal, setup steps are in the Autodesk Forma (ACC) & Procore Submittal Workflows article.
4.) What are the possible responses?
Every submittal gets a response. The outcomes are:
Reviewed → Compliant — recommend forwarding to the design team.
Reviewed → Partially Compliant — see the attached review for details.
Reviewed → Non-Compliant — recommend revise and resubmit.
Not a reviewable type — the submittal type isn't supported for automated review, and (in a workflow) it's moved out of TrunkSubmittal's court so nothing gets blocked.
Error — the automated review couldn't be completed; reach out to your Trunk Tools contact.
6.) How long does it take?
For submittals synced from Procore or Autodesk, TrunkSubmittal currently checks for new submittals every 2 hours, so there may be a short lag between when a submittal comes in and when you see a response. Once ingested, the review itself typically takes about 5 minutes. A manual upload in the app starts reviewing right away. We're actively working on reducing the sync lag.
7.) Where do I see the review?
Every review is visible in TrunkSubmittal in the app, under the Submittal Review Agent for your project. If TrunkSubmittal is a reviewer step in your PMS workflow, the submittal shows as Pending while it reviews, then a PDF review is attached to the submittal and the workflow automatically advances to the next step.
5.) Which integrations are supported?
Procore and Autodesk Forma (ACC). The Autodesk integration requires a dedicated Autodesk service account, a regular Autodesk user tied to a shared company email, not a personal login.
8.) How do I set it up?
If your submittals are uploaded directly to a connected Procore or Autodesk project, TrunkSubmittal works automatically, there's no per-submittal setup. You can also upload a submittal manually in the app at any time. Optionally, to have responses posted back into your PMS workflow automatically, add TrunkSubmittal as a reviewer step: in Procore the TrunkText user needs Admin permission on the Submittals module; in Autodesk you'll set up the dedicated service account first. Full step-by-step instructions are in the Autodesk Forma (ACC) & Procore Submittal Workflows article.
9.) Does it replace my responsibility for the review?
No. TrunkSubmittal surfaces findings referencing the submittal, spec sections, and related closed RFIs. Your team still owns the final approval.
10.) What if a review looks wrong?
Share that feedback directly with your Trunk Tools contact, it helps improve accuracy.
