Trunk Tools for iPhone and iPad: Early Access Guide

How to join early access for the Trunk Tools iOS app, device requirements, and what you can do on iPhone and iPad.

What Is Trunk Tools for iPhone and iPad?

Trunk Tools for iPhone and iPad puts your project's knowledge and daily field workflows in your pocket. Ask questions and get answers backed by your project's documents, capture the day as you walk the site, build and submit your daily log, and review agent results. On site, on the move, even with no signal.

Note: The app is in early access and available through Apple's TestFlight. Features marked Rolling out may not be turned on for every account yet.

Before You Begin: Device Requirements

  • To run the app — iPhone XS (2018) or newer, running iOS 17 or later. Also works on iPad.

  • For offline answering — A device with Apple Intelligence (iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, or any iPhone 16), with Apple Intelligence turned on.

Note: To turn on Apple Intelligence, go to Settings → Apple Intelligence & Siri. Everything else in the app works on older supported iPhones; only offline Q&A is unavailable.

How to Get Early Access

What's TestFlight? It's Apple's free, official app for trying apps before general release. You use it once to install Trunk Tools, then open Trunk Tools like any other app.

Step 1: Share Your Apple ID Email

Send your Trunk Tools contact the Apple ID email your iPhone or iPad is set up with. To find it, open Settings and tap your name at the top. The invite must go to that exact address.

Step 2: Watch for the TestFlight Invite

Look for the TestFlight invite email. If you don't see it, check your spam folder.

Step 3: Install TestFlight and Accept the Invite

Install TestFlight from the App Store, open the invite, then tap Accept and Install.

Step 4: Sign In and Pick Your Project

Open Trunk Tools and sign in with your usual Trunk Tools login (SSO is supported). Pick your project, and you're ready to go.

What You Can Do in the App

Sign In and Switch Projects

Sign in securely with your normal Trunk Tools login, including SSO. The app works on one project at a time, and you can switch projects anytime from the project button.

Ask Questions and See the Sources

Ask about your project in plain English: drawings, specs, RFIs, submittals, schedules, costs, and daily logs. Answers stream in live.

  • Sources — Under each answer, tap Sources to see the exact documents behind it. Tap one to open it at the cited page, highlighted. Daily log sources open a detail panel.

  • Attachments — When you're online, you can attach photos and files to a question.

Review Agent Results on the Go

  • TrunkSubmittal — Browse compliance reviews and open a review's full detail, including the verdict, compliance analysis, conflicts, recommended actions, and documents used. Tap Ask about this review to open chat, or Draft email.

  • TrunkRFI — Browse the agent's RFI reviews and questions (read-only), open a summary, and jump into the full conversation in chat.

  • TrunkReview (drawing comparison) — Open a drawing and see what changed from the previous revision: added work in blue, removed work in red, and a list of change areas. View-only on mobile.

Note: Other agents appear in the app but open on the web.

Stay in the Loop

Push notifications and an in-app inbox keep you updated on agent results and conversations shared with you, across all your projects. Tap a notification to jump to the right screen.

Share Answers With Your Team

Share a conversation with teammates on the project, with control over who can see it.

View Analytics

If you have access to analytics, you can view the dashboard on your device, covering questions, submittal ROI, RFI metrics, and change events, with drill-downs and PDF export.

Work Offline on the Jobsite

Lose signal inside the building? The app keeps a copy of your project's structured data on your device and answers questions with no connection, including RFIs, submittals, daily logs, spec sections, companies, and contacts.

Note: Offline answering requires Apple Intelligence (see Device Requirements above). Documents aren't stored on the device, so opening them needs a connection.

Manage Settings and Your Account

  • Appearance — Choose Light, Dark, or System. Dark is the default.

  • Offline data — Check offline data status and tap Sync Now.

  • Sign out — Signing out clears cached project data from the device, so the app is safe to use on shared jobsite tablets.

Rolling Out: New Field Features

The features below are rolling out to a test pool. To try them, ask your Trunk Tools contact to add you.

Capture the Day With Field Notes

Field Notes is a shared field journal with one notebook per day. Everyone on the project posts to the same day.

  • Post as you go — Add a photo, voice note, or text throughout the day, and mark up photos with captions.

  • Site walk — Records audio continuously while you snap photos, then plays back with each photo synced to the moment it was taken, plus a transcript.

  • Feeds your daily log — Tap Add to daily log to bring field notes into the log.

  • Works offline — Notes upload when you're back online.

Build and Submit Your Daily Log

Run the full daily log workflow on your phone with the Daily Log Assistant.

  • Collect check-ins — Gather check-ins from subcontractors. They can fill in their own report from the app.

  • Draft the log — Build it from the day's field notes, by chat, or by voice.

  • Fill in Procore entry types — Manpower, weather, notes, equipment, visitors, inspections, deliveries, safety, quantities, delays, and more, with photos.

  • Submit — Submit to Procore, or complete and distribute.

  • Plan ahead — After closing a log, plan who's on site for the next two weeks.

Talk Hands-Free With Voice Calls

Start a live, hands-free voice call with the assistant to ask questions or work through your daily log out loud. When you start a call from the daily log, it focuses on that day's log and updates it live as you talk.

Not Available on Mobile Yet

  • Creating or configuring agents — You can view and act on existing agent work, but setup happens on the web.

  • Viewing documents offline — Only structured project data is available offline.

  • Writing or editing most records — The app is mainly for reading and asking, plus the daily log capture and submit flows.
