Getting Started with Trunk Tools
Welcome to Trunk Tools. This guide walks you through your first few minutes in the platform — signing in, opening your project, and asking your first question — so you can start getting answers from your project documents right away.
Trunk Tools reads, connects, and acts on the documents behind your project, so your team can get cited answers in seconds instead of hunting through disconnected systems.
Who Can Do This
✅ All roles — anyone invited to a Trunk Tools project can sign in and start asking questions about the documents they have access to.
Note: You need an active Trunk Tools account and access to at least one project. If you can't sign in, see Troubleshooting Sign-In Issues.
Step 1: Sign In
Open Trunk Tools in your browser and sign in with the account your team invited you with.
Step 2: Open Your Project
Once you're signed in, select the project you want to work in. Everything you ask and see is scoped to the project's connected documents.
Step 3: Ask Your First Question
Ask a question the way you'd ask a knowledgeable teammate — for example, "What is the fire rating for the corridor walls on Level 3?" Trunk Tools finds the answer across your project documents and replies with the answer plus links to the documents it came from, so you can verify it before you act.
Note: You can also ask questions by text message or in Microsoft Teams. See What is TrunkText?
Step 4: Narrow Your Results with Filters
If a project has a lot of documents, use filters to point Trunk Tools at exactly what you need. Click the filter button next to the chat box to filter by source (your project's connected integrations) or by document type, such as Specifications, RFIs, Submittals, Drawings, Daily Logs, and Folders. See Using Filters in Trunk Tools.
