The Autofit button is a feature within Pencil's Template Tool that automatically adjusts the size of a text box to fit the content you input. This ensures that your text is neither too cramped nor too spacious, maintaining a professional and polished appearance.

How to use the Autofit button

  1. Open the Template Tool: Start by accessing Pencil's Template Tool from your dashboard. Choose the template you wish to work on or create a new one.

  2. Add a Text Box: Click on the 'Add Text Box' option. A new text box will appear on your template.

  3. Enter Your Text: Type or paste your desired text into the text box. You can adjust the font, size, and style as needed.

  4. Apply Autofit: Once your text is in place, click the Autofit button located in the text box toolbar. This will automatically resize the text box to snugly fit your content.

Benefits of using Autofit:

  • Efficiency: Saves time by eliminating the need for manual adjustments.

  • Consistency: Ensures uniformity across multiple text boxes, maintaining a cohesive design.

  • Professional Appearance: Prevents text from being cut off or leaving excessive white space.

What happens if Autofit is applied?

When Autofit is applied, the text box will adjust its dimensions to perfectly enclose the text. This means:

  • The text box will expand or contract based on the length and size of the text.

  • The text will remain fully visible, with no risk of being cut off.

  • The overall layout will look neat and organised.

What happens if Autofit is not applied?

If you choose not to use Autofit, you may encounter the following:

  • Manual Adjustments: You will need to manually resize the text box to fit your content, which can be time-consuming.

  • Text Overflow: There's a risk of text being cut off if the box is too small.

  • Inconsistent Design: Without Autofit, maintaining consistent text box sizes across your design can be challenging.
