How to publish, reply, and remove reviews from your product pages

Introduction

In this guide, we'll take a look at how to take control of the reviews your customers submit from your product pages or request emails.

Auto-publish reviews

Auto-publish feature

To comply with new guidelines surrounding product review apps for e-commerce and commit to transparency in customer reviews, starting October 16th, 2023, all new reviews will be automatically published regardless of their rating.

If you come across any reviews containing profanity or hate speech in the content submitted by your customers, please go to the Reviews page and unpublish them from your product pages.


Manually unpublish reviews

Unpublish feature

In case you prefer to hide any review for valid reasons, such as content containing profanity or hate speech, you can choose to hide it from your product pages.

  1. Go to Reviews

  2. Search for the review you want to hide

  3. Click Unpublish. The status will change after a few seconds.

πŸ“ Note: Please make sure that you only unpublish reviews that do not meet the standards and cannot be showcased.


Reply to a review

Reply feature

Acknowledge the time and effort your customers took to provide feedback by posting a reply.

  1. Go to Reviews

  2. Find the product review you'd like to reply

  3. Click Reply

  4. Write your response in the text field

  5. Check the option Make reply public to publish the response on your product page. Otherwise, your reviewer will only receive your reply via email

  6. Click Send.

To make sure that your reviewers receive a notification with your reply, please enable the Review Reply email.

  1. Go to Requests Queue > Emails

  2. Find Review Reply and click Edit

  3. Customize the template and save changes

  4. Toggle the switch ON to enable the notification.

Require explicit opt-in

This option guarantees that notifications are sent only to customers with a marketing status of subscribed in Shopify.

  1. Go to Settings > Email

  2. Scroll down to Require Explicit Opt-In

  3. Toggle the switch ON

  4. Save changes.

Deleting reviews

To give you full control over your reviews, you can permanently remove content from your account if you come across reviews with profane or offensive language.

  1. Go to Reviews

  2. Find the product review you'd like to delete

  3. Check the box at the left of the review

  4. Click Delete

  5. Confirm that you want to delete the review by clicking Continue.

πŸ“ Important Note: Deleting a review cannot be undone once confirmed.


Performing actions on multiple reviews

Bulk actions feature

Use the bulk actions to manage multiple reviews at the same time.

  1. Check the box at the left of each review or check the option at the top of the page that says Showing X of Y reviews to select the entire page of reviews

  2. Select the action from the menu that will appear under the search bar:

    1. Publish

    2. Unpublish

    3. Delete.


Common questions

Can I edit the content of the reviews?

No. The reviews submitted by your customers are not editable.
