What is an Atomic Essay?

An Atomic Essay is a short essay (usually ~250 words) that is shared as an image. It's a great way to share longer writing on social platforms. You can also customize the theme of your Atomic Essays to fit your personal brand.

Start by creating a post

Create a post by selecting "Atomic Essay" either from the home page or press the new post button.

Next, write your post or choose a template

Browse Atomic Essay templates on the left side, and write your essay on the right.

Inserting a template

To insert a template, first find the one you want to insert by browsing the template panel on the left. Then click into the template and select "Insert Template".

Note: this will replace any existing content you have in the editor.

Writing your post

Now, you can fill in the template, or write your own post. You never need to use templates - but they are helpful!

Sizing your Atomic essay

When writing your Atomic Essay with the goal of publishing on X (Twitter) pay attention to one of the following banners

Image may appear cutoff on X

This banner will appear when your essay will appear cutoff when you publish it to X (Twitter). This just means that readers will have to click into the image to read the full essay. Ideally they should be able to read the full essay while scrolling.

To fix this, you can simply remove some text, or reduce the don't size in Theme > Customize > Font Size in the left sidebar in the editor.

Image is too large to post to X

You might also encounter this banner. In this case, you won't be allowed to publish to X (Twitter) until you shorten your essay using the same methods as above.

Downloading your Atomic Essay

You can download your image as a .PNG file to your device.

To download:

  1. Press the 3 dots in the top right corner

  2. Select "Download Essay Image"

Publishing/Scheduling your Atomic Essay

Publishing to Typeshare is included on all plans (Free, Pro, and Creator), but publishing to social platforms (X, Bluesky, Threads, and LinkedIn) is only available on our Pro and Creator plans.

When you are done writing, you can publish your post to the following destinations:

  • LinkedIn

    • Shared as an image

    • Or as a native LinkedIn post

  • Typeshare

  • X (Twitter)

    • Shared as an image

  • Bluesky

    • Shared as an image

  • Threads

    • Shared as an image

Note: direct publishing requires you to connect to all of the selected destinations. If you haven't done that yet, you'll be prompted to do that now or you can that from Settings > Connections (this only takes a few seconds).

  1. Press the Publish button in the top right corner.

  2. Select the destinations you want to publish or schedule to (if you haven't connected a certain destination, you'll be prompted to here).

  3. Preview each destination.

  4. Press "Publish Now" to publish your post immediately or "Schedule" to pick a time to publish in the future.

Wait 24 hours

After you publish your Atomic Essay, wait 24 hours. This gives your post time to see how it performs with your audience on each published platform.

After 24 hours, your post will receive a Performance Score that indicates how well that post performed overall and on each published platform.

A high score = high performance and you should write more like this.

To view your posts performance score, scroll down on the Home page and click on the post under "Recently Published" or "Top Performers" if it was one of your top performers in the last week.

When you click on the post, you'll be able to see how well your post performed on each published platform.

There you go! Everything you need to write, publish, and see what Atomic Essays your audience is resonating with!

If you ever get stuck, you can contact support in the bottom right of Typeshare (and get connected with our resident Typeshare expert - Cait).
