Manage Customer Types
Customer Types serve as a classification system that groups your customers into meaningful categories such as Retail, Wholesale, Corporate, International, or Domestic. This categorization becomes invaluable when analyzing sales performance, as each customer can be assigned exactly one Customer Type that will carry through to all their associated Sales Orders, creating a consistent reporting framework across your entire sales operation.
Add a Customer Type
To create a new Customer Type:
From the main menu, go to Settings > System > Customer Types.
In the "Customer Type" field enter a unique name for the type.
Click Add.
The new Customer Type will be added and will be available to select in Customer records.
Alternatively, new Customer Types can be created when using the Import Customers CSV template. Any Customer Type in the Customer template that does not match an existing Customer Type's name will be added.
Edit a Customer Type
Customer Types can be edited as your business needs change:
Go to Settings > System > Customer Types.
Click on the Customer Type's row.
Edit the Type Name as required.
Click away from the Customer Type.
When you edit a Customer Type's name, the change applies retroactively to all Customers and Sales Orders that previously used that type. This ensures consistency across your historical data.
Delete a Customer Type
If a Customer Type has not been used and is no longer needed, it can be deleted. Before deletion, ensure the Customer Type isn't currently assigned to any customers, including those marked as obsolete. Use the View Customers page with filters set to "Obsolete: All" and your specific Customer Type to identify any remaining assignments and update accordingly.
To delete a Customer Type:
Go to Settings > System > Customer Types.
Click on the bin icon along the Customer Type's row.
If you don't see a bin icon next to a Customer Type, it means that type is currently assigned to a customer record and cannot be deleted.
Using Customer Types
After a Customer Type's been created it can be assigned to a customer's record to provide useful insights in your sales reporting.
To assign a Customer Type to a customer:
Open the customer's record.
In the Details tab, use the Customer Type drop-down menu to select the Customer Type.
