1. Open both tools
In Twain: open the campaign you want to export.
In lemlist: open or create the target campaign where the emails will be sent.
2. Confirm API connection
In Twain, confirm your lemlist API key is connected and that Twain shows the lemlist campaign you want to export to.
3. Name your message steps in Twain
Give each outgoing message step a clear name so they map easily in lemlist (e.g., email intro one, email follow-up one, email follow-up two).
4. Choose a subject line
In Twain pick the subject-line variant you want each email to use (if Twain gives choices).
5. Turn off duplicate-checking before export (if needed)
If you want all exported leads to go through regardless of duplicates, untoggle the “check for duplicates” option in Twain.
6. Export leads from Twain
Export the campaign/leads from Twain to lemlist
7. Build the campaign in lemlist
In lemlist, create the campaign or edit the existing one and add email steps to match the number of steps you exported from Twain
8. Map personalization variables
For each email step in lemlist open the personalization settings (“add personalization”).
Confirm the custom variables pushed from Twain appear in the personalization dropdown/list — they should match the step names you set in Twain (e.g., email intro one, email follow-up one, etc.).
9. Select the correct message for each step
For the first email step select email intro one; for the second step select email follow-up one; for the third step select email follow-up two.
10. Preview messages for sample leads
Use the preview feature and switch between sample leads to confirm:
The message is correctly formatted.
Personalization variables are populated per lead.
Each lead sees the unique, tailored message intended for them.
11. Save and launch
Save the campaign in lemlist after checking all steps and previews.
Launch according to your normal scheduling rules in lemlist.
Quick troubleshooting & tips
If personalization variables don’t appear in lemlist, re-check the API export step in Twain — variables must be pushed with the leads.
Always preview a few different leads (different variable values) to verify personalization works.
Use clear, consistent step names so mapping is obvious when selecting the message for each email step.
If you don’t want duplicates to be filtered automatically, make sure “check for duplicates” is untoggled before export.
Keep subject lines and follow-up timing consistent with your outreach policy.
