Connect Twain to Salesforce

This guide covers everything you need to know about the new native integration between Twain and Salesforce. Use this as a quick reference for setting up your connection and exporting leads seamlessly.

General Integration Questions

What is the Twain Salesforce native integration?

It is a direct connection that allows you to push and export leads and personalized messaging data directly from Twain into your Salesforce CRM without using third-party connectors.

Do I need an API key to connect Twain to Salesforce?

No. Unlike other integrations (such as HubSpot), the Salesforce integration uses a direct authorization process. You simply select Salesforce in Twain and follow the on-screen authorization prompts.

Does Twain know about our existing relationship with a contact?

Yes. Every generated lead has a Relationship field on its Research tab, summarising any existing connection between your company and that contact. If nothing is found, it says so, which tells reps to treat the outreach as a genuine cold start rather than implying prior familiarity.

Setup & Mapping

What must I do in Salesforce before exporting leads?

You must create custom fields in Salesforce to house the data Twain will send over. If these fields don't exist in Salesforce first, you won't be able to map them in Twain.

How do I create a custom field for Twain messages?

  1. In Salesforce, go to your Object Manager and select Contact Fields.

  2. Create a new field and select Long Text Area.

  3. Name the field (e.g., "Twain Message 1").

  4. Recommended settings: for standard messages, around a 2,000 character limit. For research, thesis, and strategy output, around 20,000 characters to ensure nothing is cut off.

How do I map the data in Twain?

Once your Salesforce fields are created, go back to the Twain export screen. You will see a list of Twain data points (Message 1, Message 2, Research, and so on). Use the dropdown menus to match each Twain variable to the corresponding custom field you created in Salesforce.

Exporting & Using Data

How do I know the export worked?

After clicking "Export Leads" in Twain, open a contact record in Salesforce. You should see the custom fields populated with your Twain-generated messaging and research.

Where can I see the personalized messaging for my outreach?

You can view the data within the contact record or use the custom variables within your Salesforce email templates. For example, you can insert Twain_Subject_Line or Twain_Message_1 into your templates to preview and send the text.

Does it export research and insights?

Yes. The research exports with clean formatting, making it easy for your sales team to read and use during outreach. On High and Ultra, the Thesis and Strategy output can be mapped to their own fields as well, so reps see why the lead was approached this way and what to avoid raising, not just the finished message. Map them to long text fields, since these sections are detailed.

Troubleshooting

Why is a specific message not exporting?

Ensure you have mapped the field. For example, if your sequence only has four steps, you do not need to map "Twain Message 5." Always ensure the number of steps in your Twain campaign matches the fields you are exporting.

Why are the Thesis or Strategy fields empty?

Because they depend on the mode the lead was generated in. Thesis is produced on High and Ultra, Strategy only on Ultra. A lead generated on Base has neither, so those mapped fields come across empty. See How Modes Work: Base, High, and Ultra.
