The link between a fixed asset and an address
Every fixed asset has a required address. The address provides the street, city, country, and other location fields. The asset itself holds the asset name, asset type, access instructions, and phone number.
When you open a fixed asset's drawer, the Info tab shows the linked address name and full address, with a Manage this address button to open the address drawer.
Changing the address on a fixed asset
To change a fixed asset's address, click the Address field on the asset drawer and select a different address from the dropdown. A confirmation message appears:
Only events you create after the change use the new address.
How the address flows to events
When you create an event and select a fixed asset, the asset's linked address auto-fills in the event's Address name field. You can override this by selecting a different address before saving. The override only applies to that event. It does not change the asset's address or affect other events.
If you select a moving asset, no address is auto-filled because moving assets do not have addresses.
Deleting and archiving addresses
If an address is linked to one or more active fixed assets, it cannot be archived or deleted. You need to re-link those assets to a different address first. If the linked assets are all archived, the address can be archived or deleted.
Addresses that are only used on clients, projects, or opportunities (but not assets) can still be archived.
FAQ
If I edit the address details, do linked events update?
If I edit the address details, do linked events update?
Changes to the address name, ID, full address, and phone update everywhere the address is used. However, access instructions work differently: changes to access instructions on the address only apply to new events. Existing events keep whatever access instructions they had.
What happens if I change the asset on an existing event?
What happens if I change the asset on an existing event?
If you change the asset to a different fixed asset, the event's address updates to the new asset's address. If you change to a moving asset, the event keeps whatever address it already has. If you remove the asset entirely, the event also keeps its current address.
