Linking an event to an asset tells your team what they are working on and where. When you select a fixed asset, the address carries over automatically.
Linking an asset during event creation
When creating a new event (from the Events page, a project, or an address), look for the Asset name dropdown on the creation form.
Click the dropdown to see all assets belonging to the selected client. Each asset shows its name, type, and location (for fixed assets) or registration number (for moving assets).
Select the asset.
If you select a fixed asset, the Address name field auto-fills with the asset's linked address. You can override it by selecting a different address or clearing the field.
If you select a moving asset, the address field is not affected.
Linking an asset on an existing event
Open the event drawer. In the Asset section on the Info tab, click the asset name field and select from the dropdown. The same auto-fill behavior applies for fixed assets.
How address auto-fill works on events
When creating an event, Vantage fills in the address automatically based on what is available, in this order:
If a fixed asset is selected, the asset's address is used.
If no asset is selected but the project has an address, the project's address is used.
If neither of the above, and the client has an address, the client's address is used.
You can always override the auto-filled address before saving or change it after the event is created.
Changing the asset on an existing event
If you change the asset on an event to a different fixed asset, the event's address updates to the new asset's address. If you change to a moving asset, the address stays as it was. If you remove the asset entirely, the address stays as it was.
The Asset and Address fields may not appear on all event types. This depends on how your workspace is set up.
FAQ
Can I link an event to both an asset and an address?
Can I link an event to both an asset and an address?
Yes. An event can have both an asset and an address at the same time. This is common for fixed assets, where the asset provides the "what" and the address provides the "where". For moving assets, you can add an address separately if the work takes place at a specific location.
Does the event's address change if I update the asset's address later?
Does the event's address change if I update the asset's address later?
No. Once an event is saved, its address is independent. Changing the asset's linked address only affects new events created after the change.
