When you create a project or event in Vantage, the address field does not start empty, it inherits from the level above it. Understanding this hierarchy saves time during setup and helps you avoid mismatched locations on events.
The address hierarchy
Addresses flow down through three levels:
Client address | If a client has an address on their record, it defaults into any new project created for that client. |
Project address | If a project has an address, it defaults into any new event created within that project. |
Asset address | If an asset is linked to the event, its address takes highest priority and overrides whatever was inherited from the project or client. |
In practice: if you link an asset to an event, Vantage uses the asset's address, not the client's or the project's. The asset is the most specific location, so it wins.
You can always override the address on any individual project or event. The hierarchy sets a default, not a rule.
When this matters
For workspaces that use assets, the asset address always takes priority and you rarely need to think about the hierarchy.
The client and project defaults become useful when:
You are running events at a location that does not have an asset set up yet
You are creating multiple events across the same project and want the address pre-filled consistently
You do one-off work at a client's head office or a temporary site
FAQ
What happens if none of the levels have an address set?
What happens if none of the levels have an address set?
The address field on the event stays empty. You can add one manually when creating the event or update it afterward from the event's Info tab.
If I update the client's address, does it change existing projects and events?
If I update the client's address, does it change existing projects and events?
No. The address is copied at the point of creation. Changing the client's address later does not update any projects or events that have already been created.
Can an event have a different address from its asset?
Can an event have a different address from its asset?
Yes. The asset address is the default, but you can override it on the event manually. This is useful if the job is at a different location than the asset's registered address.
