Linking an incident to an event

How to link an incident on one event to another event for resolution.

If an incident cannot be resolved on the original event, for example, a return visit is needed, you can link it to a different event. This keeps the problem visible and traceable across both jobs.

Linking an incident to another event

You can link incidents from the event's Issues tab or from the Incidents page.

From the Incidents page:

  1. Find the incident and hover over the row.

  2. Click the chain link icon.

  3. Choose Link to existing event or Link to new event.

  4. If linking to an existing event, choose the event from the dropdown and select which incidents to link.

  5. Confirm.

From the event's Issues tab:

  1. Scroll to the Linked section at the bottom of the Incidents list.

  2. Click + Link new incident.

  3. Choose the event and select which incidents to link.

What linking does

Once linked, both events show the connection:

  • The originating event shows the incident with a Linked to reference pointing to the resolution event.

  • The resolution event shows the incident in a separate Linked section with a Linked from reference back to where it originated.

Linking to a new event creates and links in one step, useful when you need to schedule a return visit specifically to resolve the incident.

FAQ

Can I link the same incident to more than one event?

No. An incident can only be linked to one resolution event at a time.

Can I remove a link after it has been created?

Yes. Open the linked incident from the Issues tab and remove the link from the incident details.

Does linking close the incident?

No. Linking and closing are separate actions. An incident stays open after linking — you close it manually once the problem has been resolved.
