When volunteering abroad, there’s always a chance for something unexpected to happen. If you ever find yourself in a situation you’re not happy with – we’ve got your back! Don’t worry, this usually doesn’t happen.

Our mission is to provide volunteers with all the information they need to be prepared for their stay and have realistic expectations about the situation on-site. However, if you’re in a situation you’re not happy with or you have a problem, this is what you should do:

1. Get in touch with your local contact person

As a first step, you should always send a direct message to the contact person of the program or talk with them directly, if you're already on-site. They will be happy to help you with your problem and they’re the best to answer questions that are directly related to the program. To write a message beforehand, simply go to the program’s page on Volunteer World and click on the “Contact Coordinator” button below the project's name.

2. Contact our community management team

If for any reason your contact person is not able to help you or you can’t reach them, our community management team is here for you. We are happy to support you to find a solution you’re happy with and help you with further steps as well as finding the right person to contact. Just write us a message via helpcenter@volunteerworld.com or visit our live chat on the Volunteer World website.

3. That didn’t help? Find a new program

If the first two steps didn't help you solve the problem, you might come to a point where you feel like you don’t want to stay and keep working at your program site. This can also happen in advance: You’ve just or not yet arrived at the program site, but you already don’t want to work there?
Don’t worry. Get in touch with our community management team and we will help you to find a new program. You don’t need to worry about the deposit you have already paid - Our Flex Option allows you to reuse it!

We always got your back

If the worst case applies and you want or have to go home, just contact us via helpcenter@volunteerworld.com and we will help you with further steps. Our working hours are: Monday - Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. (CET). We can't promise, but we will do our best to also answer beyond opening hours if it's an emergency. Although it's best if you try to reach us during these hours.

You’ve paid the deposit but the organization cancels? That’s no problem. If you are not able to go on your volunteering experience due to a cancellation of the organization - our Refund Guarantee has your back! You can either find a new program and use the paid deposit with them, or get a refund.
