How to do a good LinkedIn search?

LinkedIn is a goldmine. But there are a few tricks you need to know to take advantage of its full potential, particularly in search.

Do not use a keyword

There is no reason to use the keyword.

  • Using keywords in a LinkedIn search can be ineffective because the platform's search algorithm primarily focuses on factors such as connections, industry, location, and other profile attributes rather than just specific keywords. Therefore, relying solely on keywords may not yield accurate or relevant results. It's often more effective to use a combination of filters and criteria to refine your search on LinkedIn.

☝️ Example

  • If you're looking for individuals for the position of "Marketing," use the "Title" filter and search for the words "Marketing" or "Marketer."

💡 Good to know

If you want to target people in the marketing industry, use the "Industry" filter to search for the term "Marketing and Advertising."

Using the title to qualify prospects

Most of the time, if you are looking to prospect, what you are interested in is :

  • What the person does.

  • The sector of activity.

  • The company.

  • The size of their company.

  • Their seniority.

  • Their geographical location.

💡 Good to know

The size of the company, the seniority of the prospect and their status as a decision-maker are only accessible with the Sales Navigator search function.

Using “Title” in your LinkedIn searches allows you to precisely target the right prospects and improve the relevance of your results.

💡 Good to know

It often replaces the keyword, which provides too random results. It becomes particularly powerful when Boolean operators are used.

Using boolean operators

Boolean operators are extremely efficient. They allow you to enhance the precision of your searches in a keyword search field :

  • AND: Combine terms (e.g., "Marketing AND Manager").

☝️ Example

"Marketing AND Manager" will find profiles containing both "Marketing" and "Manager".

  • OR: Find profiles containing either term (e.g., "Marketing OR Sales").

☝️ Example

"Marketing OR Sales" will find profiles containing either "Marketing" or “Sales”.

  • NOT: Exclude terms (e.g., "Marketing NOT Sales").

☝️ Example

"Engineer NOT Manager" will find profiles that mention "Engineer" but exclude those that mention "Manager".

  • Quotations marks: Search for exact phrases (e.g., "Digital Marketing Specialist").

☝️ Example

"Digital Marketing Specialist" will find profiles containing that exact phrase.

  • Parentheses: Combine Boolean searches (e.g., "Marketing AND (Manager OR Director)").

☝️ Example

"Marketing AND (Manager OR Director)" will find profiles containing "Marketing" and either "Manager" or "Director".

⚠️ The Booleans operators don’t work with the “Clean my import” feature:

  • Special characters, boolean operators and quotation marks are incompatible with this feature 🔴

Two options then:

  1. Remove the negative filters, boolean operators and quotation marks, and make a simpler search. The Clean import function will then filter out prospects that don't have the exact keywords you entered, and perform one search by job title (no AND / OR).

2. Keep boolean operators and disable import cleaning via the ⚙️ icon.

Don't exceed 1000 search results

LinkedIn limits the display of search results to 1000. You can only browse until page 100, with 10 results per page, and there is no page 101.

💡 Good to know

Therefore, it is not possible that Waalaxy imports more than 1000 leads per unique search, even if you restart the process.

If your search contains more than 1000 results, and you want to scrap past that threshold, try splitting it into smaller searches (varying regions, for example 🌍).

➡️ Having less than 1000 results allows you to refine your LinkedIn search and therefore generate quality leads.

Example: Search by region to personalize your LinkedIn search feature.

When you get thousands of inaccessible results in a search (e.g., by typing "Marketers"), refine your search by entering a region in the Location filter.

When creating campaigns on Waalaxy, this enables highly personalized campaigns:

  • Marketers Pittsburgh

  • Marketers Denver

  • Marketers Oakland

For example, the invitation note for your prospects in the "Marketers Denver" campaign might look like this:

"I saw that you were in marketing around Denver. Your profile seems interesting! Etc."

🤓 For your information

You can also go for a Sales Navigator subscription: is offers 2500 visible results per unique search.

Using Waalaxy AI Prospect Finder

This feature allows you to find leads easier & faster without passing through an import from your LinkedIn account. 🏃

How does it work?

1️⃣ Select your prospects (10 minimum) that you think are relevant. This sample has to be based on a common parameter (location, title, activity sector…).

🟢 Works: 3 business developers, 3 sales people, 4 sales managers in France.

  • The AI knows how to recognise lexical fields. It just needs them to practice similar jobs.

  • The best is still to have 10 Business (or more) developpers.

🔴 Doesn't work: 1 business developer in India, 5 recruiters in Canada, 2 freelancers in France, 2 bakers in France.

2️⃣ Click on the "AI Prospect Finder" feature in the top right corner

3️⃣ Enter the number of leads you want (1,000 max)

4️⃣ Hit the “Launch AI” button and let the magic operates! 🪄

You'll see leads imported automatically.

💡 Good to know

Waalaxy focuses more on “active” prospects, who accept invitations and reply on LinkedIn, and profiles that are not often solicited.
