Kiosk Device Configuration

Customer Interfaces: Kiosk Device Configuration

Written by Scott Pfeifer

Kiosks are on-site devices (typically Apple iPads or Android tablets) which allow customers lacking a personal internet connected device (such as a smartphone, tablet, or PC) to create tickets.

The following article describes how to configure a kiosk device and will need to be repeated for each device at a given location. For instructions on how to configure kiosk settings that apply to all kiosks within a location at once, see Kiosk Settings Page.

Install Google Chrome or Other Web Browser

  1. Ensure kiosk device has a strong and consistent internet connection

  2. Download and install Google Chrome if it is not already installed on the kiosk device. WaitWell supports most modern browser options but we recommend Chrome or Safari (if on Apple) for the best experience.

Determine Location Kiosk URL & WaitWell Key

  1. Have a WaitWell Admin log in to the WaitWell Staff App from a smartphone or desktop PC

  2. Navigate to Settings in the Left-Hand Navigation

  3. Select Customer Site/App from the Global Navigation

  4. Select Kiosk Settings from Sub-Global Navigation

  5. Take note of the URL and WaitWell Key at the top of the page

Configure WaitWell on the Kiosk Device

  1. On the kiosk device, open the web browser and enter either https://kiosk.waitwell.us/ (if in the US) or https://kiosk.waitwell.ca/ (if in Canada)

  2. When prompted, enter the WaitWell Key from the previous step. The browser will only prompt for this key once, as it will be cached by the web browser

  3. The kiosk start page should now be displayed on the kiosk device

Configure Device-Specific Kiosk Settings

The following settings are device-specific and therefore configured directly on device instead of via the WaitWell Staff App. For instructions on how to configure kiosk settings that apply to all kiosks within a location at once, see Kiosk Location-Specific Configuration. To access the device-specific options window, select the hamburger menu at the top right of the start page.

Most of these settings are self-explanatory so you may configure as you like but at a a minimum, ensure "Location" is set to whichever location the kiosk is set up at.

  5. Triple-click the physical side button (or the home button on older models) to bring up Guided Access options.

  6. Draw boxes around areas of the screen you do not want users to touch. We recommend drawing a box around the entire navigation bar at the top of the screen, like this:

  7. Select Start at the top right corner of the screen. Guided access mode should now be enabled. Triple-click the side or home button any time to modify these settings
