One day, an enterprising operations pro was sent on a quest to solve three riddles for their band of adventures:

  • How are users interacting with our product features?

  • Where are users dropping off in their journey?

  • What behaviors correlate with higher retention or conversions?

Alas, the people told them, "You can't answer those questions! You'll have to cross the chasm of extract-load-transform (ETL) tools, climb Mount Data Warehouse, and slay the Data Analysis dragon. It's an impossible task, and also we don't have the budget for that."

But lo! The Operations Pro found a magical tool called Wallabi that could help them cross chasms, climb mountains, and slay dragons. All they needed was a PostHog integration.

This is their story.

What PostHog data can I analyze with Wallabi?

Wallabi will automatically pull campaign event, user, and feature flag data from PostHog. If you need support for additional reports, contact our team.

Wallabi automatically generates insights related to the following:

  • Tracking Feature Adoption and Engagement - Understand how users interact with newly released or existing product features.

  • Optimizing Conversion Funnels - Pinpoint where users drop off during critical workflows, such as onboarding or checkout processes.

  • Improving User Retention and Cohort Analysis - Analyze which behaviors correlate with long-term user retention and loyalty.

And much more!

What do I need before connecting to PostHog?

You will need Google Chrome, the Wallabi for Chrome browser extension, and a Google or Microsoft oAuth email address. For more details on getting started with Wallabi, see here.

How do I connect to PostHog?

From your insight feed, select the hamburger menu in the top left corner, then select "Data" to navigate to your Data Management tab.

Select "Add data" at the bottom of your list of data sources, then select the data source you want to connect.

Be not afraid! Wallabi uses a third-party vendor called Fivetran to manage the extraction and loading of data into the Wallabi analytical cloud data warehouse. You are not charged for these costs. For additional details on the Fivetran integration, see their PostHog connector documentation or security policies.

Select "Continue" to proceed.

Note: You will need a PostHog Personal Access Token to complete the authentication process. See the PostHog API documentation for details on creating your access key. When choosing the scopes for your key, we recommend the following:

  • annotation:read

  • cohort:read

  • feature_flag:read

  • insight:read

  • person:read

  • project:read

  • query:read

After making your selections, click "Save & Test" to continue.

And that's it! Wallabi has started extracting, cleaning, and modeling your data for analysis. This can take anywhere from a few minutes to several hours depending on the source system and your data volume. Sit back and grab a cup of coffee. Wallabi will alert you when you can start asking questions.

Why am I seeing things related to Fivetran when I connect my data? Who is that?

Wallabi uses a third-party vendor called Fivetran to manage the extraction and loading of data into the Wallabi analytical cloud data warehouse. You are not charged for these costs. For additional details on the Fivetran integration, see their PostHog connector documentation or security policies.

Why does it take so long for Wallabi to gather my data?

Source systems like HubSpot, Salesforce, and others impose rate limits on their APIs. Depending on your data volume, this can significantly impact the speed at which Wallabi can move data.

What PostHog permissions do I need to connect to Wallabi?

To connect Wallabi to PostHog, you need a PostHog Cloud account hosted in the United States or European Union data region.

How often does the data sync between PostHog and Wallabi?

Data is synced every 6 hours by default.

What happens to my data after my trial period has expired or I stop using Wallabi?

Wallabi will pause all syncs from the source system but retain any historical data already moved. You may continue to ask questions, but be aware that insights will likely not reflect the reality of your business until you subscribe and Wallabi updates your data.

The Wallabi team manually purges old customer data from our databases regularly. If you would like to expedite this process or have other questions/concerns, please contact support@wallabi.ai.
