This guide covers how SMS marketing works on YourKind, how credits are used, and how to send your first campaign.

⚠️ Caution

SMS is currently only available in Australia. We will be expanding to more regions very soon.

How SMS Marketing Works

YourKind SMS marketing uses a credit-based system. Each SMS message you send consumes 1 credit. Credits can be purchased as a subscription (for discounted rates) or as a one-time top-up.

When you send an SMS campaign, YourKind delivers the message directly to the phone numbers stored in your Audience Database. You can send to your entire database or target a specific segment.

πŸ’‘ Tip

SMS works best for time-sensitive announcements such as ticket releases, last-chance reminders, and exclusive offers. Keep messages short, direct, and include a clear call to action.

Before You Start

To send SMS campaigns, you will need:

  1. SMS Credits β€” Purchase credits through the SMS section of your Dashboard or via a subscription plan.

  2. Audience Data β€” Contacts in your database must have a phone number on file. Phone numbers are collected automatically at checkout.

  3. A Clear Message β€” Draft your SMS content before sending. Messages should be concise and relevant to the recipient.

Sending Your First SMS Campaign

  1. Navigate to SMS Blasts under the Marketing section in the sidebar.

  2. Select your audience β€” choose your full database or a specific segment.

  3. Compose your message. Keep it under 160 characters for a single SMS credit per recipient.

  4. Preview your message to ensure it reads correctly.

  5. Click Send to dispatch the campaign immediately.

ℹ️ Note

We automatically include and manage opt-out requirements for you, so there's no need to include additional opt-out messaging in your drafted SMS.

Credit Calculations

Standard SMS: A single SMS can include up to 160 characters. If your message includes emojis, the limit is reduced to 70 characters.

Long Messages: If your message exceeds these character limits, it will be split into multiple parts. You will be charged 1 Credit for each part.

Alpha-numeric Sender ID: If you're using a custom ASID, each SMS will cost 1.3 Credits per part.

Best Practices

  • Be concise β€” SMS messages should be short and to the point.

  • Include a link β€” Add a link to your event page or ticket checkout to drive conversions.

  • Time it right β€” Send messages during reasonable hours and avoid late-night campaigns.

  • Segment your audience β€” Send relevant messages to targeted groups rather than blasting your entire database.

SMS messages are sent using credits. You'll need to purchase or subscribe to credits before you can send messages.

πŸ’‘ Tip
SMS messages have a 98% open rate, making them one of the most effective ways to reach your audience. They cost more per send, but when nearly every message gets read, they're worth it for your most important comms.
