How to add and manage size charts on Target+

Add and manage size charts for Target+ in Acenda by sending your size chart to Target+ as an extra product image.

Acenda Assets gives your Target Plus size chart a public link, and you put that link in Target's Size Chart attribute so the chart appears in the Size Charts tab on your product page. Target prefers this attribute method. Sending the chart as an extra product image still works as a fallback, but Target plans to phase that method out.

This guide covers how to send a chart with an Assets link, the fallback image method, which size values to use, Target's deadlines, and how to fix common problems.

Good to know: The size rules, deadlines and turnaround times in this article are Target's policies, and Target can change them. Acenda sends your chart link, images and size values to Target+; Target decides what's accepted and when the Size Charts tab appears.

Which size chart method should you use on Target+?

Target+ accepts size charts three ways. If your items can use the Size Chart attribute, choose it first.

Method

Who can use it

What you send

Size Chart attribute (preferred)

Apparel & Accessories divisions, except Jewelry and Accessories

A public link to the chart, such as an Acenda Assets link to a JPEG or PNG

Alternate image (fallback, being phased out)

Ready to Wear, Swim, Shoes and Performance

The chart as an extra product image

Size Chart Submission Template

Any category, including ones that can't use the attribute

Target's template, sent to Target's content team. Allow about 10 days.

Send a size chart with an Assets link (recommended)

You upload the chart to Acenda once, copy its public link, and add that link to the Size Chart attribute on your Target+ posting template. For more on Assets, see How to host size charts and instruction manuals in Acenda.

Step 1: Upload the chart to Assets

  • Save your chart as a .jpg or .png file. Assets also accepts other file types, such as PDF, but Target's Size Chart attribute only takes a JPEG or PNG image (or a CSV file, covered below).

  • Go to CATALOG > Assets.

  • Click Upload File and choose the chart from your computer, or click Add from URL to pull it in from a link you already have. Use a clear file name, such as size-chart-womens-tops.png, so you can find it again.

  • Find the file in your Assets list and click the copy icon in that row's Actions column. The link is public and opens without a login, which is what Target needs.

Step 2: Add the link to the Size Chart attribute

  • Click CHANNELS > Integrations in the sidebar, click Edit next to your Target+ integration, and open the posting template for the item's category.

  • Find the Size Chart attribute. If your template doesn't show it, contact Acenda Support to ask about adding it.

  • Enter the link. If every item in the template shares one chart, set the Value Type to String and paste the link. If the chart differs by item, store the link on a product custom field and map the attribute to it with Value Type Property (see How to create custom fields and How to build a posting template).

  • Click Save on the template. Acenda sends the link to Target+ the next time the items sync.

Target needs the link on both the parent item and every variant. If it only reaches the variants, the chart doesn't appear on the product page. For items already live on Target.com, Target expects the chart to appear within about 24 hours. For new items, allow up to 5 days after the item goes live.

What the chart needs

  • Table layout only: Target accepts charts laid out as a clear table. Infographics, measurement diagrams and lifestyle images can be rejected.

  • Image quality: At least 800 × 800 pixels, with sharp, readable text.

  • CSV instead of an image: Target also accepts a link to a CSV chart, but Assets doesn't take CSV files. Host a CSV somewhere public that needs no login, and don't use a Google Drive link. Put guest-friendly headers with units in the first row, one size per row, and ranges written as 30-34. Keep it under 10 MB and within 50 rows and 50 columns.

Changing a chart? Uploading a new version to Assets creates a new link rather than replacing the old file. Copy the new link into the Size Chart attribute (or the custom field) and save.

Required categories and deadlines

Target's size chart policy: Target requires a size chart for all new items in four Apparel & Accessories divisions: Ready to Wear, Swim, Shoes and Performance. New items in these divisions need a size chart within 21 days of being listed, or Target may unlist the item until a chart is added. Shoelaces and shoe horns are excluded. Target can change this policy at any time.

Recommended size values

Target recommends these standard values in your size field. Using them helps your items pass Target's checks the first time.

  • Apparel, letter sizes: XS, S, M, L, XL, XXL, XXXL, One Size, OS. Target prefers the short form (S, M) over the long form (Small, Medium).

  • Apparel, numeric sizes: 0, 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 18, 20.

  • Footwear, US numeric: 5, 5.5, 6, 6.5, 7, 7.5, 8, 8.5, 9, 9.5, 10, 10.5, 11, 11.5, 12.

  • Footwear, letter sizes: XS, S, M, L, XL.

  • Kids and baby: NB, 0–3M, 3–6M, 6–9M, 9–12M, 12M, 18M, 24M, 2T, 3T, 4T, 5T.

What Acenda checks: When an item's variation theme includes size, Acenda makes sure every variant has a size value before sending it. Acenda doesn't check the value itself against this list, so a non-standard value can still go to Target+ and be rejected there.

Values to avoid

These are the most common reasons Target rejects a size value. Keep them out of your size field:

  • Ranges: "S–M" or "6–8".

  • Fit or marketing text: "Relaxed Fit" or "Oversized".

  • Gender or audience: "Men's" or "Women's".

  • Mixed formats: "Medium / Large".

  • Non-standard abbreviations: "SM", "LG" or "MED".

  • Fit descriptors: "Petite" or "Tall" belong in other fields, not in the size value.

Fallback: send a size chart as an alternate image (being phased out)

Use this method only if you can't send the Size Chart attribute yet. Target plans to phase it out. You send the size chart to Target+ as an alternate image on the item. Target's automation reads the chart image, converts it into Target's size chart format, and Target's content team adds it to the Size Charts tab on your product page.

  1. Click CATALOG > Items in the sidebar.

  2. Click the eye icon next to the item to open it.

  3. If the item has variants (for example, one per size or color), open each variant you sell on Target+. Target+ takes alternate images from each variant; the parent item only sends its main image.

  4. Scroll to the Media section and click the pencil icon to edit the images on the Details tab.

  5. Add your chart.

  6. Click Upload Image to choose a file from your computer, or Add from URL to paste a link, such as one you copied from CATALOG > Assets. New images are added to the end of the list as alternate images.

  7. Drag the images into order. Target asks that the size chart is not the main image and not the first alternate image, so place it after your main image and at least one other product photo. To check an image's type, click its edit icon and make sure Type is set to alternate.

  8. Click the Save Changes icon. Image changes are lost if you leave without saving.

  9. Acenda sends the images to Target+ in the order you set the next time the item syncs. Target then converts the chart and adds the Size Charts tab.

Tip: Adding the same chart to many items? Use a spreadsheet import instead. Follow How to bulk update product images and put the chart's URL in a later alternate column, such as images.default.2.alternate.url, so it never lands in the main or first alternate spot.

Note: Acenda sends each variant's main image plus up to 15 alternate images to Target+. Keep your size chart within the first 15 alternates so it isn't left out.

Chart image tips

Whichever method you use, Target reads your chart from the file, so a clean, simple chart works best:

  • Clear headers: Label every column, for example Size, Bust, Waist and Hip.

  • One table per image: If you have more than one chart, send each as a separate image.

  • Sharp and readable: Use a high-resolution image where all text is legible.

  • Simple grid: Avoid merged or split cells.

  • Plain background: Skip patterns, watermarks and decorative elements that get in the way of the text.

  • File type: JPEG or PNG.

Pick the right kind of chart for the product:

  • Apparel size chart: Based on the shopper's body measurements, not the garment's measurements.

  • Dimension chart: For home products like rugs, bedding and wall art, showing area, length and similar measurements.

  • Comparison or compatibility chart: For electronics or sporting goods, showing how the item compares to other models.

Updating an existing chart

If you sent the chart with the Size Chart attribute, upload the corrected chart to Assets, put its new link in the attribute and save. For charts sent as images, and for adding items to a chart or removing one, changes go through Target's content team. To request a change, open a case with Target Plus Partner Support through the Partners Online portal and include the following:

Action

Required information

Add items to a chart

1. The TCIN where the chart already appears. 2. A list of TCINs to link to it.

Remove a size chart

Target says requests are typically handled within 5 business days. For help planning your size charts, open a case with Target Plus Partner Support through the Partners Online portal.

Troubleshooting & FAQ

  • Why does my size chart show as the main image? The chart is first in the item's image list, or its Type is set to main. Open the item, edit the Media section, drag the chart after your main image and at least one other photo, check its Type is alternate, and save. If an item has no main image at all, Acenda uses the first image in the list as the main image, so always keep a product photo first.

  • Why isn't the chart showing after I sent the Assets link? Open the link in a private browser window to check it works without a login, and check the file is a JPEG or PNG, not a PDF. Make sure the link went out on the parent item and every variant. For live items, allow about 24 hours; for new items, up to 5 days after the item goes live. After that, open a case with Target Plus Partner Support through the Partners Online portal and include the TCINs.

  • Why hasn't Target added the Size Charts tab yet? With the fallback image method, Target's content team adds the tab after converting your image, so it isn't instant. First confirm the chart was saved on each variant you sell on Target+ (not only the parent item). If the tab still hasn't appeared after several business days, open a case with Target Plus Partner Support through the Partners Online portal and include the TCINs.

  • Why didn't my chart go to Target+ at all? Acenda only sends images once they've finished processing, so a newly uploaded image can take a short while to go out. Also check the chart is within the first 15 alternate images. If it still isn't sent, contact Acenda Support.

  • What if my item was unlisted for a missing size chart? Add the chart using the steps above. Once the requirement is met, the item should be eligible to relist; if it doesn't come back after the chart appears, open a case with Target Plus Partner Support through the Partners Online portal.

  • Why was my size value rejected? Find the error under CHANNELS > Item Issues, or on the item's Channel Status tab under Target+ (or whatever you've named your Target+ channel). Change the size to one of the recommended values above and save. For size variation errors, see Troubleshooting: Target+ "DATA_VALIDATION" error for size variation themes.
