Canadian Test Dates

Information about Casper test dates for Canadian programs

Updated over a week ago

The admissions cycle for the majority of Canadian programs begins in August and ends in April. This may vary depending on your program.

In order to reserve a Casper test, you typically must first submit an application for admission to at least one program. You are required to select a minimum of one program when reserving a Casper test, and will need to provide any required ID numbers for each program you select. These ID numbers are provided by programs or application portals when you have completed the necessary application steps.

Different Test Dates for Different Programs

If you are interested in applying to multiple Canadian undergraduate medicine programs but they do not share a common Casper test date between them, you can do the following:

  1. Reserve a test date that is available for the program(s) that only have earlier test dates.

  2. Add the other programs to your distribution list later, after you have received the required ID numbers (e.g., OMSAS ID). Please ensure you add those programs before their respective distribution deadlines.

For example: you may be applying to both Dalhousie and Queen’s undergraduate medicine programs. Dalhousie’s last test date is in August, while Queen’s first test date is not until October.

Queen’s program requires you to provide an OMSAS ID to reserve your Casper test. You can reserve the Casper test in August with only Dalhousie on your distribution list. Closer to October, once you receive your OMSAS ID, you can add Queen’s to that test’s distribution list. You do not need to take the test again.

You can find the test dates and ID requirements for each program on our Dates & Fees page, and the instructions for adding programs can be found here.

Rescheduling a Test

Applicants can usually reschedule their own tests by following the instructions in this article.

However, if you currently have a test reserved for programs that test in August and would like to reschedule to a future date, those programs will need to be removed or swapped. For programs that require OMSAS IDs, you will need to wait until you receive your OMSAS ID to do so.

To reschedule, please contact the Acuity Insights Team via the chat bubble or by emailing support@acuityinsights.app to inform us of which program(s) you would like to remove, and which program(s) you would like to replace them with. If the new programs require an OMSAS ID, please provide that as well. We can then assist you with swapping the programs and rescheduling your test.

There are no additional fees associated with swapping a program for a different one.

Starting in the 2023-2024 cycle, applicants can reschedule their Casper test for free if they do so 31 or more days before their scheduled test. All applicants are subject to a $20 rescheduling fee should they choose to reschedule within the 30 days before or any time after their scheduled Casper test.

Exceptions may be provided for those with verified technical or medical issues and those approved for a fee assistance program honoured by Acuity Insights.

If you are waiting for an OMSAS ID to reschedule, you may receive an automated email informing you that you have missed your test. You can safely disregard that email, as you will be rescheduling your test after receiving your OMSAS ID.

For example: you reserve a test in Augustwith Dalhousie on your distribution list. You change your mind about applying to Dalhousie’s undergraduate medicine program, and would like to apply to McMaster instead. However, those programs require an OMSAS ID, and their first test is not until October.

You should not complete your August test Closer to October, after you receive your OMSAS ID, please contact the Acuity Insights team with the following information:

  • Explain you would like to replace Dalhousie with McMaster, so you can reschedule to the October date

  • Provide your OMSAS ID

Our team will assist you with swapping the programs, and you will then be able to reschedule your test as normal. If you would like to add further programs beyond those being swapped in, you can do so with the instructions here.

Test Language

Applicants applying to Canadian programs must complete Acuity Insights Assessments in the language of the program they are applying to. If you are applying to programs offered in both English and French, you can complete Acuity Insights Assessments in either language. However, you are not permitted to send both your French and English results to the same program.

For example: An applicant is applying to Sherbrooke, McMaster, and McGill for undergraduate medicine. Sherbrooke only accepts French Acuity Insights results, so the applicant must take the associated French Casper test (CSP-20206F-Sciences de la santé-niveau 2). McMaster only accepts English Acuity Insights results, so the applicant must also take the associated English Casper test (CSP-10201-Canadian Professional Health Sciences). However, McGill accepts either English OR French Acuity Insights results, so the applicant can choose to add McGill to either their French OR English Acuity Insights distribution list, but not both. If an applicant applies to both English and French programs, they will need to complete a Snapshot in each language.
