Chat notifications

What chat sends you, and how muting and mentions work.

Chat notifications go to your phone as push notifications. They don't appear in the Notification Centre. The number on the Chat tab shows how many chats have unread messages.

What you get

  • New message: "[Name] sent in chat" for a one-to-one chat, or "[Name] to [group]" for a group. The message text follows.

  • Mention: "📣 [Name] tagged you in [group]" when someone @-mentions you.

  • Reaction: someone reacted to one of your messages.

  • Group changes: someone added you to a group or removed you, or added or removed other members.

  • Calls: a voice or video call rings like a phone call. You need Calls switched on in You → Notifications.

Muted chats

If you mute a chat, its messages stop sending push notifications. Mentions still come through, so you never miss a message aimed at you.

Quiet hours

Pause and notification schedules apply to chat too. See How notifications work in All Gravy.
