Overview

Segments and tags help you organise your audience for smarter targeting and more personalised campaigns. Segments are dynamic groups based on filters like event attendance or email activity, while tags are manual labels you assign to specific contacts (like VIPs or contest entrants).

Used together, they make it easy to target the right fans with the right messages at the right time.

What Are Segments & Tags?

  • Segments are dynamic groups based on filters like location, email engagement, or purchase history. They update automatically as new fans match your criteria.

  • Tags are manual labels you apply to contacts — great for categorising contest entrants, VIPs, or internal audience groups.

Creating a Segment

  • Go to Audience > Filters

  • Add your criteria (e.g. “Ticket Name is ‘Early Bird’”)

  • Click Save Segment

  • Give it a clear name (e.g. “Early Bird Buyers”)

Segments are dynamic – they update automatically when new contacts meet the filter criteria.

  • Click the (three-dot) menu next to the segment.

  • Select Edit or Delete.

Use Cases for Segments

  • Sync segments from Audience Republic into Meta to create Facebook Custom Audiences

Top Segment Ideas to Drive Ticket Sales

  1. Past Buyers (Not This Year)

    • Filter: Purchased last year AND NOT purchased this year

  2. Presale Registrants Who Haven’t Purchased

    • Filter: Signed up for presale AND NOT purchased

  3. Top Spending Customers

    • Filter: Total spend > X amount

    • Reward these loyal fans with exclusive perks

  4. Fans in a Specific Location

    • Filter: City, state, or country matches event location

Best Practices

  • Combine Segments and Tags
Use segments for behaviours (e.g. purchased) and tags for manual flags (e.g. “VIP”) to fine-tune targeting.

  • Be Consistent With Tag Naming
Stick to a structure like “Contest – Month” or “VIP – 2025”.

  • Regularly Review Segments
Ensure filter logic still aligns with current marketing goals before using them in campaigns.

  • Clean Old Tags & Labels
Archive or delete unused ones to keep things tidy.

  • Use Tags for Non-Standard Data
Like “Likes techno” or “Influencer” – things not tracked via ticketing or standard fields.
