Course prerequisites settings of the Designer course format

Configure how course prerequisites are displayed and managed in courses using the Designer format. (Pro only)

When you select the Designer format in a course, additional course prerequisites settings become available in the course settings. These options provide a visual representation of prerequisite courses, automate enrolment, and add navigation features. Prerequisites are other courses that are defined as completion conditions in the course settings.


Available settings

  • Display course prerequisites

    • Disabled – Prerequisites are not visible.

    • Above course contents – Prerequisites are displayed on the course page.

    • On separate tab – A prerequisites page is linked in the secondary menu.

  • Display the prerequisite tab title

    Add a custom tab title for the prerequisites page in the secondary menu.

  • Order

    Define the position of the prerequisites in the secondary menu.

    • Position 0 is always the course itself.

    • With a negative number from –1 to –10, you can place the prerequisites before the course tab.

    • With a positive number from 1 to 10, you can place it after the course tab.

  • Prerequisites title

    Set a custom title displayed above the prerequisites.
    If none is set, "Prerequisites" is used.

  • Prerequisites info

    Add additional information displayed below the prerequisites title.

  • Automatically enroll students

    Controls whether participants are enrolled into prerequisite courses when they enroll in the main course.

    • Never

    • Only if not already enrolled

    • Always

  • Unenroll students from prerequisites

    Controls whether participants are removed from prerequisite courses if they are unenrolled from the main course.

    • Disable

    • Enable

  • Group students prerequisites

    Automatically add students to a group in the prerequisite course with the name of the parent course.
    Designer creates the group if it does not exist.

    • Disable

    • Enable

  • Open prerequisites in new tab

    • Disable – Prerequisite courses open in the same tab.

    • Enable – Prerequisite courses open in a new tab.

  • Back to main course

    Adds a menu item in the secondary navigation of the prerequisite course to return to the parent course. If a prerequisite belongs to several parent courses, the link points to the most recently accessed parent course.
