Every task created by an automation is either linked or unlinked. The setting determines whether Besty keeps the task in step with your reservations and your configuration, or leaves it exactly as you left it.

Open a task and you will see its current state, along with a control to link or unlink it.

A linked task is connected to its automation, and Besty keeps it up to date automatically. For example:

Besty can change any of a linked task's data at any time, and edits you make may not persist. This is the answer to "my manual change keeps getting overwritten". The task is still linked, so the automation is reapplying its own values.

Linked is the right state for the overwhelming majority of tasks. It is the reason a departure clean follows a guest who extends their stay, rather than sitting on the original checkout date.

An unlinked task is one Besty no longer updates. For example:

This is the answer to the opposite complaint: "I updated my template and this task did not change." The task has been unlinked, so your configuration change did not reach it.

Tasks unlink automatically when you edit them. You do not have to unlink anything deliberately. The moment you change a task by hand, Besty treats that as you taking ownership and stops syncing it.

That single behaviour explains both of the complaints above, and it is worth knowing before you start editing tasks in bulk.

Link a task to resume automatic syncing. If you want Besty to take a task back over after you have edited it, linking it again is all that is needed.

If you need a one-off change to stick, either unlink the task or create a separate manual task instead of editing the automated one.

If you find yourself making the same edit repeatedly, change the automation instead, so the task is created correctly in the first place and can stay linked.
