Understanding the Types of Audit Checks
BrightBid Audit categorizes its findings into four types to help you prioritize what to address first. Each category reflects the level of urgency and potential impact on your advertising performance.
1. Urgent Issues
These are critical problems that require immediate attention. They often indicate that your account setup is broken or your campaigns are not running as expected—for example, missing or broken conversion tracking. Fixing these should be your top priority, as they directly impact your ability to measure and optimize performance.
Examples:
Primary conversion tracking is down
No conversions tracked in the last 30 days
2. Warnings
Warnings highlight areas that may not be immediately critical but can still affect performance or account efficiency. These should be addressed after urgent issues, as they help improve the reliability and consistency of your campaigns.
Examples:
Campaigns with disapproved keywords
Disapproved ads that are still active
3. Optimizations
Optimizations are suggestions for improving campaign performance and unlocking growth opportunities. These are not necessarily errors but best practices that, when implemented, can help increase ROI, improve targeting, or enhance ad quality.
Examples:
PMax with Final URL expansion enabled
Low ad strength in responsive search ads
4. Passed Checks
These are areas where your account is already following best practices. Passed checks give you confidence in what’s working well and serve as a benchmark for maintaining good performance.
Understanding Audit Categories
BrightBid Audit organizes all checks into four main categories to help you pinpoint where improvements are needed. Each category focuses on a specific aspect of your Google Ads setup, giving you a comprehensive view of your account’s health.
1. Account
The Account category focuses on foundational setup and tracking. It ensures your account is structured correctly and that performance data is accurately collected. Without a solid account setup—including working conversion tracking and proper account-level settings—it’s difficult to measure success or optimize campaigns effectively.
Typical Checks Include:
Conversion tracking status (e.g. missing or broken tracking)
Account-level quality score and optimization score
Missing ad variations across the account
A low score in this category may signal technical problems that need to be fixed before deeper optimization.
2. Campaign
The Campaign category evaluates how well your individual campaigns are structured and managed. It highlights areas such as bidding strategy, budget pacing, campaign grouping, and the use of automation features.
Typical Checks Include:
Campaigns without active ads or assets
Automation issues (e.g. missing target CPA on Smart Bidding campaigns)
Improving this category helps ensure your campaigns are set up for efficiency and performance.
3. Ads & Assets
This category focuses on the creatives—your ads and the supporting assets that influence how your message appears to users. BrightBid checks if your campaigns are using enough relevant ad formats and assets to maximize visibility and click-through rates.
Typical Checks Include:
Missing or disapproved ad assets (headlines, images, sitelinks, etc.)
Low ad strength in responsive search ads
A strong performance here can improve your ad relevance and Quality Score, leading to lower costs and better results.
4. Keywords
The Keywords category analyzes the effectiveness and coverage of your keyword strategy. It surfaces problems like low-performing or redundant keywords and missed opportunities in keyword targeting.
Typical Checks Include:
Disapproved or paused keywords
Duplicate keywords across campaigns
Addressing these checks helps improve targeting accuracy and ensures your ads reach the right audience at the right time.
Each category contributes to your overall audit score, and you can view both the total and category-level scores in the Audit dashboard. This structure helps you quickly identify which areas need the most attention and track progress as you improve your setup.
Understanding the Audit Score
The Audit Score is a simple yet powerful indicator of how healthy your advertising account is, based on the findings from BrightBid Audit. It helps you quickly assess your current setup and track improvements over time.
How the Score is Calculated
Weighted Checks: Each audit check is assigned a weight based on its impact on account performance. Fixing high-impact issues will improve your score more significantly than lower-impact items.
Overall Health Indicator: The score ranges from 0 to 100. A higher score means your account follows more of the best practices and is in better shape to deliver optimal results.
Customizing the Score for Your Business
Not every check is relevant to every advertiser. For example, if you don’t use certain extensions or bidding strategies, some recommendations might not apply.
Dismiss Irrelevant Checks: You can dismiss individual checks that don’t apply to your business. Once dismissed, the check is excluded from your score calculation—giving you a more accurate and relevant health indicator.
Dynamic Updates: As you resolve issues or dismiss irrelevant ones, your score will automatically update. Daily re-scans will also adjust the score based on your account’s latest state.
Using the Score Effectively
Aim to gradually increase your score by addressing the highest-impact issues first.
Use it as a benchmark to measure progress over time.
Don’t worry about achieving a perfect score—focus on what matters most for your business goals.
