1st Step: Create a promotion

2nd Step: On the promotion settings under "Subscription invoicing" you will see the following options.
Apply to all invoices will include invoices after the automatic renewal of a subscription. This means that the subscription owner will have this discount inevitably.
Only apply to the first invoice will only give a discount on their first subscription payment.
Apply to all invoices before the automatic renewal means once the automatic renewal occurs, the subscription payments will go back to the regular subscription cost before a discount code is applied.
Not applicable means that the discount code cannot be used for any member purchasing a subscription.
When creating a subscription or need adjust one previously created to have the period of time where you want the discount to be applied (if it's 6 months then this setting should be set to 6 as it's the period of time before the automatic renewal).

Make sure to tick the option to automatically renew the subscription for the member to pay the full price after the initial time period with the discount has ended:
4th Step: Share the code of the promotion with your members and they'll be able to add it when purchasing a subscription:
