A new lead comes in wanting to book for tomorrow, and you have one truck available. Whether you can take the job may depend on which truck that is, and the truck type needed to complete the job. Truck Types let you label each truck in your fleet so you can see at a glance which kinds of trucks are available on any given day and which truck you're assigning when you dispatch.
If you've used Mover Roles, this will feel familiar. Truck Types work similarly, but for your trucks instead of your crew.
How it works
Create your Truck Types. In Resources > Truck Types, build a custom list that matches how you think about your fleet, such as "26' Box Truck," "Semi," "Rental," or "CDL B."
Assign a type to each truck. In Resources > Trucks, choose a Truck Type for each truck.
See availability by type. The Job Schedule shows how many trucks of each type are available per day. When dispatching, each truck's type appears on its icon.
Setting up Truck Types
Go to Resources > Truck Types. Each type has three settings:
Name: The label you'll see throughout Chariot, such as "26' Box Truck." Click the pencil icon next to a name to edit it.
Badge Color: The color of the badge that represents this type on the Job Schedule and dispatch views. Pick colors that are easy to tell apart.
Sort Order: The order your types appear in. A type with a Sort Order of 1 is listed first. For example, you might put your most-used truck first.
Assigning types to your trucks
Go to Resources > Trucks, open a truck, and select its Truck Type. Repeat this for each truck in your fleet.
Important Note: A truck that doesn't have a type assigned won't be counted in the by-type availability on the Job Schedule. Make sure every active truck has a type for accurate tracking.
Viewing trucks on the Job Schedule
After your trucks have types assigned, the Job Schedule shows a count of available trucks by type for each day. Each type appears with its colored badge, for example 26 Ft: 5 and Semi: 2.
This makes it quick to answer questions like "Do I have a semi open next Thursday?" before you commit to a job.
Tip: Badges display the first character of the Truck Type name, so "26' Box Truck" shows as 2 and "Semi" shows as S. If two types start with the same character (like "26' Box Truck" and "24' Box Truck"), use different badge colors to tell them apart, or rename one so it starts differently.
When you dispatch, each truck's badge appears on its icon, so you can confirm you're sending the right truck to the right job.

Can I change a Truck Type's name or color later?
Yes. Edit it anytime from Resources > Truck Types, and the change will apply everywhere that type is displayed.
How many Truck Types can I create?
As many as you need. Create whatever categories are useful for your business, whether they're based on size, equipment like a lift gate, license requirements like CDL B, or ownership like rentals.
