What Are Segments?
Segments are groups of tracks or search terms that are grouped together in one view. This allows you to view top level analytics, sounds, impactful posts, suggested creators, suggested communities and a breakdown of performance by country.
Why Use Segments?
Segments are the best way to view content from sounds outside of your catalog or across a custom set of search terms. This helps you keep track of trends for similar artists or find content creators that are making content based on the search terms of your choosing.
If you make a segment using a search term, please note we only pull in TikTok content for a search term reference.
How Do I Set Up a Segment?
Click on the “Segments” tab and enter a name for your segment. You can either search by artists, sound name, or genre. The list will automatically be sorted by lifetime creates, but for more timely results you can sort by “Creates (24hr)” and change the lookback window as needed.
You can add as many sounds as you like to your segment. Tip: if bulk-tracking sounds, click the pagination button at the bottom to expand the list, and bulk-select.
You can use “Search Queries” to enter any keywords and/or hashtags of communities that you’re interested in. Don't forget to click "Add Search Queries" at the end.
How Can I Use Segments?
Find creators and themes for lookalike artists
If you’re marketing an artist that has a similar sound/aesthetic to another artist you can use segments to pull in some of their top sounds and see the impactful content that has been used under any of the selected sounds. You can use this to either reach out to those creators directly and/or any of the similar creators.
Sound-agnostic search space
If you want to see top content returned for an artist on TikTok regardless of the sound in the video, you can create a segment using the artist's name or social handles. This can help catch trending, relevant content that you would otherwise miss, if you were only tracking videos using audio.
You can also use this for creator search. For example, if you wanted to find content creators who make movie edits, you could enter any relevant search terms, and it would find videos relating to that theme across TikTok.
Genre research
Segments can be used as a general genre tracking tool to find trending sounds across a genre. When creating your segment, click on the “Search Sounds” button and filter down the list on the “Genre” dropdown to select a genre. This list will automatically be sorted by the Total Creates, but for more relevant results we recommend sorting by “Creates (24 hr)” instead. Hover over the sound’s image to play a snippet of the track before selecting it.
