After uploading an estimate to a project, there are multiple ways to add markups. The first approach is to click Add a markup.

Then assign a markup code and description. Specify whether you want this markup to be a lumpsum or a percentage. If it's a percentage choose what it is applied to. The first markup you add can be assigned to direct cost or total cost.

When you add a second markup, it can also be applied to the first markup you created, enabling iterative calculations. Remember that iterative calculations can be enabled from the project settings.

If this markup structure is one that you always use and you want it to be available on other projects, you can save it as a markup template.

Alternatively, you can create a markup template from the enterprise solutions in a similar way.

This brings us to the second way of adding markups which is through markup templates. In a markup template, you can define the structure of the markups. Then when you go to the estimate register, you can implement this markup template to automatically generate markups.

Now what if you want to apply markups to specific work divisions or line items? You can do this through markup targets. Click Markup Targets, then New Markup Target, give it a name, and choose what this markup applies to by selecting the appropriate items of work. Then click Create Target.

Once this markup target is created, the next time you are adding a markup to the project, check Apply to a Markup Target, and choose the markup target. This will apply any percentage to the line item estimates that are part of the markup target.

In ForeSite, when you create value optioneering items, you can apply markups in a similar way, either from scratch or by implementing a markup template. You can also use markup targets here.

Finally, in the project settings, you can specify a default markup template to use on any newly created value optioneering item.
