Yes, for the app-based Light Show, fans need to have your team's app open and be on the Light Show screen for their phones to activate. The Light Show won't randomly trigger phones that aren't actively on the Light Show page — this is by design to prevent accidental activations. This is why the in-venue call to action is so important: you'll want to prompt fans a few minutes before the Light Show to pull out their phones, open the app, and navigate to the Light Show screen. Once they're on the correct page and you play the audio file with CUE's embedded triggers, all participating phones will light up in sync.
