What synchronization technology does CUE use for Light Shows?

CUE offers two synchronization methods for Light Shows, depending on your needs and setup.

Our newer web-based Light Shows use Global Sync, which relies on internet connectivity. With Global Sync, you simply push play on the CUE portal and all connected phones launch simultaneously over the internet. This method is simpler, more reliable, and eliminates the need for audio system testing and configuration. It also allows fans who join late to immediately sync to wherever the show currently is in the timeline, rather than waiting for the next trigger point. Most clients now use Global Sync.

CUE also maintains our proprietary ultrasonic audio trigger technology for specific use cases where it may be preferred. This technology embeds high-frequency ultrasonic triggers (between 17.5 and 19.5 kilohertz) into your audio track—frequencies above normal human hearing that fans cannot detect. When played through your stadium speaker system, these inaudible signals are picked up by fans' phones via the microphone and tell each device exactly when to flash, creating perfect synchronization across thousands of devices even in venues with poor cellular or WiFi connectivity. This technology was developed to work without internet connectivity and has proven reliable in challenging network environments.

Your choice between Global Sync and audio triggers depends on your venue's connectivity, technical capabilities, and specific requirements. We can help determine which approach works best for your event.
