What are Story Categories?

Story Categories are one of the default properties of a story and are customizable to your needs or preferences. A Category allows you to add an extra layer of information to the story, which in turn allows for easier organizing and filtering of your stories.

You can use Categories in a multitude of ways:

  • You can create Categories for Sports, Tech, Finance, Politics,...

  • Or you can use them to add a status such as Pending, Dropped, Approved

  • And so on

How can I add a Category to my story?

Adding an existing Category

In your News Desk (or Story Tray), move your mouse the bottom part of the story's image (poster frame). Next, click '+Add' and select one of the available Categories.

Creating a new Category

There are multiple ways to create a new Story Category:

  • Following the same steps as above, instead of selecting a Category, click '+Create Item', name your category, then click 'Create' to confirm. This method also immediately applies the Category to your story once you click 'Create'.

  • Alternatively, if you are an 'Owner' or 'Administrator' of your Storiez organization, then you have access to Storiez’ settings menu. Click the gear icon in the top right corner of Storiez, then go to 'Story Properties'. Go to the 'Category' property, click '+Add' and follow the same steps as above to create one or more extra Categories.

Once a Category has been created, you can change its color and name by clicking the three vertical dots next to the Category name.

The same menu also allows you to delete a Category.

How can I use Story Categories as filters to find specific stories?

Because the Category property is detected by the filters in the News Desk, we can use them to filter or find specific Stories.

Click the filter icon in the top right corner of the News Desk, next to 'Saved filters'. Select the property you want to filter on, such as in this case 'Category'. You can now select which Category to filter on.

To reset the filter, you can click 'Clear all'.
