This Lexicon contains all terminology used for our Automator, for our general Cuez Lexicon have a look at this article.


A

Actions

Each Block configuration (Clip, graphic, audio,…) can be configured to have its own specific automations actions, meaning a function (or set of functions) that would run once a Block (or Item) is triggered. Learn how to configure Automations Actions in this article.

Automatic Scrolling

In the Automator, when triggering a Block (or Item) in your Rundown, the list of triggers (Blocks, Items) will scroll automatically so that the actively triggered Block goes to the top of the screen. More information on how to enable/disable Automatic scrolling here.

Automator

The Cuez Automator is a tool used to automate (live) shows by connecting your Cuez Episode (Rundown) with the hardware and software that is used in the studio. More detailed information in this article.


B

Blackmagic Design

Blackmagic Design creates video editing products, video converters, film restoration software and waveform monitors for the feature film, post production and broadcast industries. Blur

Blur allows you to perform functions on the current Block, as soon as the next Block in the Rundown is triggered. Find all information about the Blur function in this section.


C

CasparCG

CasparCG Server is a Windows and Linux software used to play out professional graphics, audio and video to multiple outputs as a layerbased real-time compositor.

Chyron-Prime

Companion

Companion both comes with a builtin stream deck emulator, a webpage for touch screens and the ability to trigger buttons via OSC, TCP, UDP, HTTP, WebSocket and ArtNet. More information about Companion here.

Conditions

When adding new (sets of) functions, you will have the choice between 3 conditions : 'ALWAYS' (configured functions will always run when triggered) / 'IF' / 'IF ELSE' (run the functions only when certain conditions are met). More detailed information about Conditions in this section.

CuezDeck Buttons

CuezDeck buttons can be used to perform functions, the same way you can configure functions in Blocks for example. Using these buttons allows you to easily trigger a set of actions using a button at the top of the Automator screen.

Cuez Media Player

The Cuez Media Player (CMP) is a browser based media player that can receive clips and images. It can be used as a standalone option to play back media from the Automator, but is designed to be used in conjunction with tools. More information here.


D

Device

In the top right corner of the Automator, click on 'Devices' and then 'Add device'. Select your device (vMix, Viz Flowics, Tricaster,...) from the dropdown list and give it a name. You will then see all fields needed to configure it so it can be used with the Automator.

Device Media Folder

The 'Device media folder' is the folder where the Automator will download all media in order to make it accessible for your device, with its location seen as from the device itself. This is most likely just a local folder on the same computer. More information here.

Download folder

The 'Download folder' is the folder where the Automator will download all media to, with its location seen as from the Automator. If the device and Automator are installed on the same computer, then this will be a local folder. If they are on separate devices, this will be an IP address on the local network. Ember+

Ember+ (or EmberPlus) is a control protocol defined by the Lawo Group, allowing communication between two endpoints: a data provider (typically a device exposing a set of controllable parameters) and a consumer (typically a monitoring system).

Functions

Depending on the 'device' you select to perform a certain function on, the list of available functions will differ. Upon selecting a device, the list of functions automatically adapts to show all the functions available for that 'device'.

Keyboard Shortcuts

Using and configuring keyboard shortcuts allows you to easily trigger a set of functions, using a single key. Keyboard shortcuts can then also be programmed on something like a Stream Deck to control the Automator. More information in this article.


M

Macros

Macros are functions, or sets of functions, that are created as a Macro so they can be used to replace a repetitive series of functions in automations throughout the Automator. All you need to know about the Macros in this article.

MIDI

MIDI is the digital form of saying which musical note is played. Traditionally this was used on musical keyboards to be connected to other systems to play with different sound effects. Nowadays, it is used as a way to trigger certain actions remotely.

For example: when you play note 48 (“C3”), this triggers an Audio Cue.

Mo-Sys

Mo-Sys specialises in virtual production, camera tracking, broadcast robotics and remote production solutions, but also camera technology products for film and broadcast, high-quality AR, VR and virtual production. More information here.


N

Neton.live

NewBlue

NewBlue is a developer of video effects, transitions, and titling software for consumer video editing. They also integrate with Adobe Premiere Pro, Blackmagic Design, DaVinci Resolve, Avid Media Composer, and more. All information about Newblue on this page.

Next

The Next action allows you to perform functions on a Block, using the metadata of the next Block in the rundown. More information about the Next configuration here.


O

OBS

OBS is a free and open source software for video recording and live streaming. Connect the Automator with your OBS by following the steps in this article.

On Cue

These are functions/triggers that you would like to run whenever a Block or Item is triggered (meaning when a Block or Item is selected in the triggers, indicated with a red border around it). Learn more about the On Cue configuration in this section.

On-Hertz Artisto

On-Hertz Artisto is a software audio engine on COTS, allowing you to build audio workflows with built-in redundancy, control, (inter)operate and automate efficiently thanks its API. More information about that device here.

OSC

OSC is a protocol for networking sound synthesizers, computers, and other multimedia devices such as light consoles, audio mixers and media servers, for purposes such as musical performance or show control.


P

Pair

From the Episode overview in Cuez itself, click 'Automator' next to the name of your Project. The next screen will show the available connections for your Organization and allows you to pair an Automator with your Project. More information about the pairing steps here.

Panasonic PTZ

Panasonic PTZ (Pan Tilt Zoom) cameras designed for broadcasters, conference and live event, video streamers and remote learning educators. More information here.

Project Settings

Filter the Blocks you want to see in the Automator via the Project Settings, accessible in the Menu at the top right of your screen. You can also choose which fields you want to show or hide as a Title or Subtitle and have your trigger layout wider or regular.


R

Resolume

Resolume Avenue is an instrument for VJs, AV performers and video artists. Resolume Arena Media Server has everything Avenue has, plus advanced options for projection mapping and blending projectors. Control it from a lighting desk and sync to the DJ via SMPTE timecode. More information in this page.

RossTalk

RossTalk is a plain text based protocol that allows control of the switcher from an external device. All you need to know about RossTalk here.

Rundown Events

Rundown Events can be used to perform functions, or sets of functions, automatically every time you open a Rundown (Episode) in the Automator.

Script

In your Automator, follow your Script while running your Automation. Click on the blue Script icon at the top right corner of your screen and you will have a full overview of your Script without having to leave the Automator page.

Singular.live

Singular.live is a cloud-based overlay platform, for creating and controlling customizable overlays from anywhere. Learn how to integrate Singular with our Automator here.

SPX

SPX Graphics Controller is a free and open-source live graphics control application built by and for graphics enthusiasts in broadcast, streaming and events production. More information here.

Steps

'Steps' are used to separate certain functions into their own 'Step' button that will appear next to the Block trigger.

Stream Deck

A Stream Deck is a macro keyboard, that can be used with Companion for example. Using the software, you can define actions that occur when you press the keys on the device. The main purpose of a macro keyboard is to save time and increase productivity. More information about Stream Deck here.


T

Timecode

'Time codes' can be used to trigger specific functions, like for example to automatically cut to another input after a certain duration or before the end of a clip.

U

Uno

Uno by Singular.live allows you to quickly add great looking graphic overlays to your next live stream without the complexity of authoring from scratch. Follow this article to integrate Uno with our Automator.


V

Variables

When playing clips to your device, we don't want to manually send a clip to either Clip Input A or Clip Input B, but we would want to send our clip to a variable instead so we can seamlessly transition between clips. In the Automator this can be done by using an AB-alternator variable. More info about AB-alternator variables in this section.

Visca

Visca is a professional camera control protocol used with PTZ cameras, developed by Sony to allow customers to control one or more (Sony) block cameras in detail.

Viz Flowics

Viz Flowics is a cloud-native platform for remote and in-studio production of live graphics and interactive experiences for linear and digital broadcasters and all production workflows. Learn how to connect your Viz Flowics device here.

Vizrt

vMix

vMix is a Software Video Mixer and Switcher that provides live HD video mixing and live streaming software that allows you to publish your live productions directly to the Internet. Connect your vMix to our Automator following this article.


W

Webhook

We can send generic web requests. Some devices have an API that can be controlled with an HTTP link. This differs from product to product, but most of the times there is a pattern that can be derived from those endpoints. Hence the generic HTTP integration where you can configure it on your own.


X

XPression

The XPression motion graphics system can be controlled from a remote device or computer via RossTalk commands. These commands can be sent to the switcher over an ethernet connection. More information about XPression on this page.
