Summary
This article explains how to resize, reposition, and swap out different types of images in your ad: brand and lifestyle images, product cutouts, and background images and videos.
Brand & Lifestyle Images
This section covers how to resize, reposition, and swap the brand and lifestyle images in your ad.
Click the image in the editor, or select it from the timeline at the bottom.
Once selected, the image will be highlighted with four handles around it.
Drag any handle to resize the image up or down.
To change the image, click on it and select the change icon. You can swap it for any media from your library, a lifestyle image, cutout, or other asset.
To adjust the crop, click Crop and reposition as needed.
Product Cutout Images
This section covers how to swap and resize the product cutout image in your ad.
Click on the product image to select it.
To change the product, click the change button and select a replacement from your library.
To resize, you can:
Drag the scale handle on the image
Adjust the percentage field to increase or decrease the size
Use a trackpad pinch gesture to scale up or down
Background Images & Videos
This section covers how to change, crop, and reposition the background of an ad, and when the background cannot be changed.
Click the background in the editor to select it, or select it via the timeline (it will be the very bottom layer).
To change the media, either:
Click the circle filled with the current background image in the top toolbar, or
Click the folder with magnifying glass icon in the bottom toolbar
From there, select a replacement image or video from your library.
To crop or reposition how the image is shown, click Crop and adjust.
To switch to a solid colour instead, click the Colour tab and choose from your Brand Kit palette or enter a custom colour.
⭐ Important: Some ad designs, including digital interface designs (designs built to mimic the look of a phone or app screen, such as an iPhone interface), lock the background completely. On a digital interface design, the background cannot be changed by any of the methods above: it cannot be swapped for a different image or video, and it cannot be switched to a solid colour. Cuttable locks the background on digital interface designs on purpose, to preserve the on-screen interface look the design is built around. If the background options above do not appear on an ad, or a new media file does not apply when added to what looks like the background layer, the ad is using a locked-background design such as a digital interface design. This is expected behavior, not a bug, and there is currently no way to unlock the background on these designs.
What's Shared Across Ratios, and What Isn't
Each ad is produced in three ratios, 9:16, 4:5, and 1:1, and some parts of an ad are shared across all three ratios while others apply to one ratio at a time.
Background images and videos, and product cutout images, are not shared. The media you choose and the crop or position you set apply only to the ratio you are editing. A change you make in 9:16 does not automatically apply to 4:5 or 1:1, so you need to repeat the change in each ratio where you want it to appear.
Logos and manually-added elements, such as text layers and stickers, are shared across all three ratios. Each of these is a single element in the ad, not a separate copy per ratio, so editing, replacing, or removing one applies everywhere. You cannot change or delete a logo, text layer, or sticker in only one ratio while leaving it untouched in the others.
The position and size of a logo or manually-added element can be set independently for each ratio, because each ratio has its own layout. If an element does not fit a ratio's layout, switch to that ratio and reposition or resize it there. That change applies only to the ratio you are viewing, not to the other ratios.
