You can change your Examply plan at any time from workspace settings. This article covers upgrading, downgrading, and canceling, and what to expect from each.
Only Owners and Admins can manage your subscription.
Upgrade your plan
Open the command palette with
⌘K, or go to Settings > Billing.Select Change plan.
Choose Starter, Pro, or Enterprise.
Confirm your payment method and billing frequency.
Upgrades take effect immediately. You're charged a prorated amount for the rest of the current billing period, and the new plan's full rate applies from your next invoice.
Downgrade your plan
Note: Downgrading from Pro removes access to Timeline view, time tracking, guest access, and project templates. Existing timeline data and time entries are kept and reappear if you upgrade again.
Go to Settings > Billing > Change plan.
Choose the lower plan.
Review which features and teammate seats will be affected, then confirm.
If your downgraded plan supports fewer teammates than you currently have (for example, moving to Free with more than 3 teammates), you'll be asked to remove teammates before the change takes effect.
Cancel your subscription
Go to Settings > Billing.
Select Cancel subscription.
Choose a reason from the list, and confirm.
Your workspace stays on its current paid plan until the end of the billing period you've already paid for, then moves to the Free plan automatically. Projects and tasks beyond the Free plan's limits become read-only until you either upgrade again or archive projects to get under the limit.
Canceling doesn't delete anything. Tasks, comments, files, and time entries are all kept — read-only items become editable again the moment you upgrade or free up room under the Free plan's limits.
What happens to your data
Whether you upgrade, downgrade, or cancel, Examply never deletes data as a side effect of a billing change. The only thing that changes is which features and how much of your workspace you can actively edit:
Upgrading unlocks previously read-only projects and features immediately.
Downgrading past a teammate or project limit makes the excess read-only rather than removing it.
Canceling behaves like downgrading all the way to Free at the end of the current period.
If you want to permanently remove data instead, see the article on exporting or deleting your workspace data.
Troubleshooting
Don't see the Billing option in Settings? You're signed in as a Member or Guest — ask an Owner or Admin to make the change.
Canceled by mistake? Resubscribe from Settings > Billing before the current period ends and no data is lost.
Plan change stuck or not reflected? Refresh your workspace or sign out and back in — changes typically apply within a minute.
