My pay was the wrong amount

Why your pay might not match what you expected, and what to do about it.

Written by Stephen Paul

If the amount doesn't look right, here are the usual explanations.

Your break was unpaid. Most shifts include an unpaid break, often 30 minutes. That time is taken off the hours you're paid for. You'll see the break and the total pay on the timesheet before you submit it, so it's worth checking there.

The times on the timesheet weren't the times you worked. If you didn't edit your timesheet, it will have been submitted with the times the shift was booked for. If you stayed late or started early and didn't change it, you'll have been paid for the booked hours instead of the real ones.

The rate differs from another shift. Each care home sets its own rate, so two shifts that look similar can pay differently. The rate is shown on the shift before you book it.

It covers a different week than you thought. We pay every Tuesday, and each pay period covers the shifts approved by then. If you worked several shifts, they may not all be in the same payment.

A change was made when the timesheet was approved. The care home can adjust a timesheet if the times don't match their records.

If you've checked all that and it still looks wrong, email us at hello.ca@florenceapp.com. Tell us the care home, the date, the hours you actually worked and what you expected to be paid. We'll go through it with you and put it right if it's our error.
