Every shift shows its break before you book it. Most include an unpaid break, often 30 minutes.
The break is unpaid, which means it comes off the hours you're paid for. A 8 hour shift with a 30 minute break pays you for 7.5 hours. It's worth checking the break as well as the rate when you're deciding whether a shift works for you, because two shifts at the same hourly rate can pay differently.
The break on the shift is the one you agreed to when you booked it.
If your break changes on the day. If the care home asks you to take a longer or shorter break than the shift says, that needs the manager on site to agree it. Don't just change it on your timesheet.
If you did get approval to change it, email hello.ca@florenceapp.com and tell us what was agreed and who agreed it. We'll sort the timesheet out.
If you didn't get a break at all. It happens on a busy unit, and it shouldn't. Tell the nurse in charge at the time if you can.
Don't quietly absorb it. If you worked through your break, that's time you worked and weren't paid for. Tell us at hello.ca@florenceapp.com with the date, the care home and what happened, and we'll look at it.
If it's happening regularly at one location, we especially want to know. A unit where nobody gets their break is usually telling us something about how it's staffed, and that's a conversation for us to have with them rather than something for you to manage on your own.
