Registration Status

Each state database contains registered voter records as provided in the latest voter file, with the following Registration Status values. Regulations to determine inactive and cancelled voter status vary by state jurisdiction.

  • Active/Registered: the voter record contains recent activity

  • Inactive: no new voter activity has been recorded for a designated period

  • Cancelled: the voter's record has been identified as "cancelled" due to a written request or a period of inactivity

  • Unknown: the registration status is not provided or is undefined

  • Unregistered: the person is not registered to vote, but the record is added as a "Registration Prospect" for voter contact projects

Registration Date

Most state voter files provide a Registration Date, which usually indicates when the voter record was added to the jurisdiction's voter file.

Last Voter Activity

Some state voter files provide a Last Voter Activity date, which usually indicates when the voter record was last updated in the jurisdiction's voter file. Updates may include the last time the voter cast a ballot in an election or changes for the voter's name or address. Note: The Last Voter Activity category is hidden for states which do not provide this value.
