How to control an EarthRover without internet access

Updated over 2 weeks ago

You can control an EarthRover locally using your mobile phone, even without an internet connection. This method connects your phone directly to the bot’s built-in Wi-Fi network.

How to Control the Bot

  1. Connect your phone to the bot’s Wi-Fi network

    • Look for a network name like frodobot_ppw in your Wi-Fi settings

    • Connect to it

  2. Open your mobile browser

    • Enter 192.168.11.1 in the address bar

    • Load the page

  3. Open the Driving controls

    • Tap the menu (☰) in the upper-left corner

    • Select Driving

  4. Control the Bot

From the Driving page, you can control the bot using the on-screen joystick and controls.

    Driving with the Touchscreen

    • The blue dot on the screen acts as a virtual joystick

    • Drag the blue dot up to move the bot forward

    • Drag it down to move the bot backward

    • Drag it left or right to turn the bot

    • Hold the blue dot in position to keep the bot moving

    • Release the blue dot to stop the bot

    Other Controls

    • Turn the lamp on or off

    • Run Auto Test – the bot will drive on its own

⚠️Auto Test causes the bot to move automatically. Make sure the area is clear before using it.

    • Switch the fan on or off

⚠️The fan is for factory testing only. Do NOT enable it during normal use.

Important Notes

  • This control method works without Wi-Fi or 4G internet

  • Control is limited to basic movement and hardware functions

  • This mode is for local operation only and does not support missions or scoring

If the Menu Looks Different

If the menu layout looks different from what’s described above, your robot is likely running an older firmware version.
