How to use a RoboCap

This guide explains the RoboCap controls, then walks you through how to start, use, and safely turn off the device.

Before using RoboCap, familiarize yourself with the physical controls. You will use these throughout the guide.

Indicator Light Status

  • Red – Device is powered on, not recording

  • Green – Recording in progress

  • Blue – Data is being saved (do not power off)


2. Before You Start

Make sure the following are ready:

  • RoboCap is connected to an external power bank via USB-C

  • The cap fits securely and comfortably on your head

Recommendation: Keep the device connected to an external power bank during normal use

Battery behavior

  • A 10,000 mAh power bank provides approximately 5 to 5.5 hours of use

  • When external power is connected, the device:

    • Runs on external power first

    • Automatically charges the built-in battery

Built-in battery

  • Supports 5–15 minutes of use

  • Intended as backup only


3. Powering On RoboCap

  1. Connect the power bank to the USB-C port

  2. Toggle the Power Switch to ON

  3. Wait about 10 seconds

Wearing and Fit

  • The cap includes an adjustable head strap

  • Adjust the fit so the cap sits securely and comfortably on your head


4. Starting and Stopping Recording

Start Recording

  • Press the Operation Button once

  • The indicator light turns green

Green = recording is active

Stop Recording

  • Press the Operation Button again

  • The indicator light will change in this order: Green → Red → Blue → Red

Green – Recording in progress

Red – Recording stopped

Blue – Data is being saved

Red – Recording fully completed

Wait until the final red state before powering off or disconnecting power.

Power Consumption Reference

  • During recording: ~6.6 W

  • Standby / not recording: ~2.8 W


5. Exporting Your Data

  • Keep the device powered on

  • Connect a USB-C data cable to a computer

  • The device will appear as a removable drive within 3–5 seconds

Recorded data includes:

  • Camera video files (.mp4)

  • Sensor data files (.db)

  • Files organized by session


6. Powering Off RoboCap

  1. Confirm the indicator light is red (not blue)

  2. Toggle the Power Switch to OFF

When the indicator light turns off, RoboCap is safely powered down.
