Sharing Your Screen

Sharing your screen in Gatheround

Updated over a week ago

Sometimes, there's nothing like sharing your screen to get your message across. Within the main room of Gatheround, it's easy to share a tab, window, or your whole desktop with event participants.

How do I share my screen?

In the lower right corner of your Gatheround event screen, click the screen share icon.

Select the window, tab, or screen you'd like to share. Then, your screen will be shared to all event participants.

You can enable your camera and mic as you screen share to present your screen. Click "Stop Sharing Screen" to end your screen share session.

Who has permissions to share their screen?

All participants with organizer or hosts permissions within an event will be able to share their screen. To add someone as an organizer on your group (including any events associated with that group), see FAQ: Gatheround Premium and Groups. To make someone a host in a specific event, see FAQ: How do I change the host? Only one person can share their screen at a time.

I'm trying to share my screen and it's not working. What should I do?

First, try refreshing and make sure you’re a host or organizer for the event. If you’re still unable to share your screen, you'll need to ensure screen sharing permissions are available on both your browser and your operating system. Read below for suggestions to enable these permissions.

If you're using Google Chrome on MacOS:

Check to make sure you are updated to the latest version of Chrome. Once updated follow the steps below:

  • Go to System Preferences > Security & Privacy > Privacy Tab > Screen Recording

  • Click the lock to make changes

  • When prompted, enter an admin username and password

  • If it’s already checked, uncheck the box for Google Chrome in the list on the right side

  • If prompted, choose Later

  • Check the same box for Google Chrome that you just unchecked

  • If prompted, choose Quit & Reopen

If you're using Firefox on MacOS:

Toggle on Firefox under System Preferences > Security & Privacy > Privacy Tab > Screen Recording, then restart Firefox.

If you previously blocked permission to share your screen in Firefox and now wish to share your screen, click the permissions icon to the left of “https://gatheround…” in the address bar, then click the "x'" next to “Share the screen / Blocked Temporarily”, then try to share your screen again.

Note: If you're using Windows, there are no operating system-level screen recording permissions that you need to enable. Please reach out to our Live Support team if you are using Windows and cannot share your screen.

Can I play sound through screen share?

You do have the option of sharing audio through screenshare! You'll need to make sure that you select the option to share a "Tab" rather than a window or entire screen. Additionally, you'll want to double check that the option to share tab audio is toggled on.

*Please note that audio sharing is only available in Chrome/Chromium-based browsers.
