This guide will walk you through how to identify and tag products in Shopify that you don't want to track inventory for, and exclude those products from Genie.

This process will gloss over how to track and un-track inventory within Shopify. So if you would like a bit more information on how that process works you can check out this guide in Shopify.

In Shopify:

For the first part of this process, you will need to be in Shopify.

Step 1: Navigate to the products tab in Shopify.

If you haven't already you will want to untick the box next to inventory tracking for whichever products you would like to complete this process form. Once you have done that on the Products tab you will be able to see which products' inventory is not being tracked by looking at the Inventory column.

Step 2: Sort the products from lowest to highest.

If you aren't readily seeing the products that aren't being tracked you can click the Inventory column header to sort the column. Sorting from lowest to highest should result in the "Inventory not tracked" products appearing at the top.

Step 3: Select and tag the products.

Once you have identified the products you don't want to track, select them, and using the additional actions button you can apply a tag to all of them. Ensure this tag is unique and easy to identify. You will be using it to filter your products in Genie.

Step 3.1: Be aware that if a product has multiple variants and only some of them have untracked inventory, the product will not have the label of Inventory not tracked in the inventory column. So it is important to double-check what products you don't want to track and ensure that all variants for that product have the Track Quantity unchecked.

In Genie:

Once you have the products tagged within Shopify, you can head over to your Genie account and complete the final steps.

Step 4: Refresh your view.

It may be the case that when you get to Genie you won't see the tags readily on the products you added them to in Shopify. If this is the case for you, ensure you refresh your page and/or trigger a manual sync. Once you get the confirmation you should be good to go.

Step 5: Filter your products by the tag you added from Shopify.

Click on filters, select Shopify tags, and type the name of the tag you applied to locate the tagged products. Adding this filter will allow you to segment your products and only view the ones you have tagged from Shopify.

Step 15: Select and exclude the products in the view.

Now that you have a filtered view, you can select the products within this view and use the actions button above the search function to exclude the products from the view and insights.

Step 15.1: If you decide you want to begin tracking once more you can go to Settings then Excluded Products and re-include the products once more.

These products will return to your views in Genie, however, you will need to update the stock tracking in Shopify if you'd like to see on-hand numbers.
