In short
You describe the automation you want, in your own words, as you would to a colleague. The assistant builds it in WAX. You check it, test it, then turn it on yourself. Nothing is sent to your customers without your go-ahead.
Time needed: about ten minutes, plus the time it takes Meta to approve your templates.
Before you start: WAX must be connected to your assistant. If it isn't yet, follow Connect WAX to Claude or ChatGPT (MCP).
Key terms
Automation: a scenario that sends messages on its own when an event happens (an abandoned cart, a sign-up…). Once turned on, it runs continuously.
Trigger: the event that starts the automation for a contact.
Template: a WhatsApp message model. To write to a customer who hasn't contacted you recently, WhatsApp requires a template approved by Meta.
Inactive: the automation exists in WAX but sends nothing until you turn it on.
Step by step
Step 1: describe your automation
Write your request in Claude or ChatGPT. For a good result, give these 5 pieces of information:
The brand, if your account manages several.
The trigger: "when a customer abandons their cart", "when someone signs up"…
The messages: the channel (WhatsApp, RCS or SMS), what each message says, the buttons, the discount code.
The timing: when each message is sent ("1 hour later", "the next day").
The conditions: "if the customer has ordered in the meantime, stop".
Compare these two requests:
Too vague | Precise |
"Make me an abandoned cart automation." | "For brand X, create an abandoned cart automation: a WhatsApp message 1 hour after the cart is abandoned with a button to the cart, then a reminder 24 hours later with the code THANKS10 (10% off), only if the customer hasn't ordered." |
Forgot a detail? No problem: the assistant can ask you questions, and you can adjust everything in the next step.
The trigger must be one of those WAX offers for your organization (they depend on your integrations, among other things). If it isn't, the assistant will tell you.
Step 2: review what the assistant built
The assistant creates the automation in WAX and gives you a summary: trigger, messages, delays, conditions. At this point:
the automation is inactive: it sends nothing;
new WhatsApp templates are drafts: they haven't been sent to Meta yet.
Want to change something? Just say so: "shorten the first message", "add an emoji", "replace the discount code with WELCOME15". Then open the automation in WAX to see the whole journey.
Step 3: get your templates approved by Meta
When you're happy with the messages, ask: "Submit the templates to Meta." The assistant never does it without your consent, because a submission can't be undone.
Meta then reviews each template. To see where they stand, ask "Where are my templates at?" or check in WAX.
⚠️ Template rejected? It can no longer be edited. Ask the assistant to rewrite it: it creates a new one under another name, which you can submit again.
Step 4: test it on your phone
Once the templates are approved, ask: "Send me a test of this automation." The test goes to the phone number saved in your WAX account, just like the Test button in the editor. You receive the messages as a customer would.
Two tips:
add "without the wait times" to receive all the messages right away;
add "following every branch" to see each variant if your automation has conditions.
⚠️ Test messages are really sent and billed like any other.
Step 5: turn it on in WAX
This is the only step the assistant can't do: you turn on the automation, in WAX. From then on, it runs for your customers.
Checklist before turning it on
The trigger is the right one.
The messages are proofread: spelling, tone, links, valid discount code.
The delays and conditions are correct.
The templates are approved by Meta.
You received the test and everything displays correctly.
Edit an existing automation
If the automation is live, turn it off in WAX first: the assistant can't edit a live automation. While it's off, it sends nothing, so don't leave it paused for too long.
Ask for the change: "In my welcome automation, add a reminder 3 days later."
Review, test if needed, then turn it back on in WAX.
While the assistant works on an automation, it shows as read-only in WAX for other members for a few minutes.
Go back
Not happy with a change? Ask for example "Go back to yesterday's version of my welcome automation", or do it yourself in WAX: see Restore a previous version of an automation. Some elements aren't affected by a restore: they're listed in that article.
Something's not working?
"The assistant says it can't edit my automation." It's probably live: turn it off in WAX, then ask again.
"The test is refused." Check that all templates are approved by Meta and that no message is empty. The assistant tells you what's blocking.
"Meta rejected a template." Ask the assistant to rewrite it under a new name, then submit it again.
"The assistant can't find my brand." Give its exact name. If it still doesn't show up, see the FAQ in Connect WAX to Claude or ChatGPT (MCP).
