In order to send rewards by email in Giftbit, recipient emails also known as contacts, need to be added to the system. You can add these contacts individually or upload a list of many contacts at once.
Using contact upload allows you to send a large batch of rewards of the same value without having to enter emails one at a time, and better see how specific campaigns or sends are performing.
Contact details
At a minimum, each contact must have an email address. You can also include:
First name (optional)
Last name (optional)
Including a first name can help personalize rewards when they are sent.
Prepare your contact file
To upload multiple contacts at once, you need a file in one of these formats:
CSV (comma-separated values)
TSV (tab-separated values)
XLSX (Excel)
What your file should include
One column for email
Optional columns for first name and last name
You can also include both in one column as full name
You do not need header labels like email and first Name at the top of columns. If you include column labels in your upload, you will have one row that reports an error since that row doesn't match the required formatting.
💡Make sure email addresses are complete and correct. Extra spaces or formatting issues can cause upload errors.
Upload Contacts to Giftbit
With your file ready, follow the below instructions to upload your contact file.
Go to Contacts in the left menu.
Click Import contacts in the top-right corner.
Upload your CSV, TSV, or XLSX file.
In the mapping screen, match each column to the correct label:
Email
First name (if present)
Last name (if present)
Add a tag to the contacts so you can filter and find them later.
If you don’t add a tag, Giftbit will use the current date as the tag by default.

Review the contacts and click Upload.
Depending on file size, the upload can take a few seconds to a couple of minutes.
When the upload is complete, you will see a summary showing how many contacts were added. If any rows failed during upload, you can download an error file that shows which contacts failed and why.
You can also send an order immediately using the recently uploaded contacts by clicking "Create an order for this upload" at the top of the screen.
Common Issues
If there are any problems with the upload's contents, a message will appear "A file with error details can be downloaded here" which will provide a pop-up explaining what failed.
Your file is not in CSV, TSV, or XLSX format
Columns were not mapped correctly
Some email addresses were malformed
Formatting or hidden characters interfered with the upload
