Use this when you want to divide a site into lots that match a target unit mix within a flow, for example a townhome strip with 20% two-bedroom and 80% three-bedroom lots. The Subdivide Mix node sizes each lot for a dwelling type, in proportion to the mix you set, and tags each lot with that dwelling's usage so your counts and areas flow straight into analytics.
Category: Generative
Kind: Operation
Description: Subdivides a polygon into lots sized for a mix of dwelling types.
Inputs
This node's settings come from the paired Subdivide Mix Transform node through the T connector. You can't wire a value straight into a single setting. To drive one setting from your flow, override it with a Write Property node between the Subdivide Mix Transform node and T.
Name | Abbreviation | Type | Access | Description |
Features | F[] | Feature | List | The site polygons to divide. |
Transform | T | Object | Item | Optional. The settings from the Subdivide Mix Transform node. |
Spine | S | Feature | Item | Optional. A line to use as the spine. Subdivide Mix uses the first line. |
Outputs
Name | Abbreviation | Type | Access | Description |
Site | S[] | Feature | List | The lots. |
Every lot keeps the site's properties and adds:
usage: the usage of the lot's dwelling type.
frontage: the lot's frontage length.
area: the lot's area.
frontageCenter: the center point of the lot's frontage.
isEndcap: true for a lot at the end of the spine.
Subdivide Mix needs a site with a single, clear spine, like a strip or a bar. A site that branches into more than two arms has no single spine, and the node returns the site unchanged.

| Nothing is connected to the input, or the connected node returns no geometry. | Connect a polygon to the input, and check that the upstream node is returning geometry. |
How to
Open the flow in the Flow Builder and add the Subdivide Mix node.
Connect your site polygon to the Features connector.
Add the Subdivide Mix Transform node and connect it to the
Tconnector.Click Edit Defaults on the Subdivide Mix Transform node to set the starting values for the flow. Turn on Publish so the settings show in the properties palette.
Select a geometry that uses the flow and edit its settings in the Properties Palette. Click the revert icon on the settings group to go back to the defaults.
Subdivide Mix settings
The Subdivide Mix Transform node adds these settings to the properties palette.
Solve for target
Width (default): size each lot by its frontage. Each dwelling's Size is a length.
Area: size each lot by its area. Each dwelling's Size is an area.
Split on spine (default off): split the site down its spine and add lots on both sides, back to back. With it off, lots run the full depth of the site from one side.
Flip (default off): switch which side of the site the lots front onto. Flip is available when Split on spine is off.
Stretch (default on): stretch every lot a little to use up the leftover length at the end of a row. With Stretch off, the leftover stays as a filler lot.
Spine
Auto: Giraffe finds the spine down the middle of the site.
Manual: Giraffe adds the auto spine to the site as a line you can edit. A line connected to the Spine connector also replaces the auto spine.
Usages: the dwelling types and the mix.
Pick a usage in New usage dwelling and click Add to add a dwelling type.
Each dwelling type shows as a card with its usage, Size and Mix percentage. Change Mix on one card and the other cards rebalance to keep the total at 100%.
Drag the handles on the mix slider below the cards to change the mix visually.
Drag a card to reorder it. Click the bin on a card to delete it.
Editing Mode: color each lot on the map by its usage and label it with its frontage and area.
The default dwelling types come from the Residential usage: Studio, 1 Bedroom, 2 Bedroom and 3 Bedroom, with a mix of 0%, 20%, 72% and 8%.
How Subdivide Mix fills a site
Subdivide Mix finds the spine and splits the site boundary into a front and a back side.
It works out how many lots of each dwelling type fit, in proportion to each type's mix and size. It always rounds up, so every type gets at least its share.
It shuffles the lots into a fixed pattern, so the same mix always gives the same order.
It walks along the frontage and cuts a lot for each entry in the pattern, using that dwelling's Size.
Any short gap left at the end of a row becomes a filler lot. With Stretch on, Subdivide Mix spreads the gap across every lot and removes the filler.
End lots in Subdivide Mix
Where the spine stops short of the end of the site, Subdivide Mix cuts off an end section and fills it with its own lots, using the same mix. These lots carry isEndcap set to true, so you can style or count them separately.
Use Subdivide Mix or Subdivide Lots
Use Subdivide Mix when lots come in several sizes for several dwelling types, and each lot needs its own usage.
Use Subdivide Lots when every lot targets one frontage or area, and you need building envelopes with setbacks.
