givestar is committed to transparency on fees. Here's a full breakdown of what's charged, who pays it, and exactly how much of your donation reaches the charity.
Card processing fee
A card processing fee is charged on all donations. This is not a givestar charge — it's set by the card issuer and payment processor to cover the cost of securely handling your payment.
Web & app donations: 1.9% + £0.30 per transaction (UK credit or debit cards)
Tap to Donate: 5% + £0.20 per transaction (UK credit or debit cards)
Platform tip (optional)
When donating you may be asked if you'd like to add a voluntary platform tip — anywhere from 0% to 100% on top of your donation, like a tip in a restaurant. Platform tips help givestar keep investing in the product without charging charities, which means more impact for the causes you support. It is entirely optional. You can set it to 0% with no impact on your donation whatsoever. We value and appreciate every single donation, regardless of whether there's a voluntary contribution added.
Charity admin fee
To help fund the ongoing development, maintenance, and administration of the givestar platform, we charge charities a monthly, usage-based administration fee — not donors. It's automatically deducted from the charity's monthly settlement, and only applies in months where the relevant fundraising threshold is reached.
Project and enterprise fees

When does the charity receive the money?
givestar pays out funds on a monthly basis — generally on or around the 14th of each calendar month, covering all funds raised up to the last day of the previous month.
