We're elated you're here! Begin setting up your account by following the steps outlined here in our quick start guide or watch the video below! Have any questions? Use the chat function in the bottom right of your screen!
Logging into your Elate account
You should receive an email prompting you to set up a password for your Elate account. Follow the instructions in the email and then login.
Elate Home Page
When you login to the platform, you will be taken to your Home page. This page is completely customized to you. It will have all objectives, tactics, and outcomes you are the owner of in addition to a to do list that will show you any objectives or tactics that need to be updated or closed.
ATTENTION: Please note that the duration in the top right will determine what shows up on this page and throughout the platform. For example, in the screen shot below I am seeing all objectives and tactics that have durations between Feb 2024 - Jan 2025. You are able to click into the duration to show year, half year, quarter, or month views - please note this will be based off your fiscal year. This duration will follow you through the platform so keep in mind you may need to adjust it based on what you are looking for / what duration you want to add objectives for.
If you have the Actions package, you will also see any Blockers or Next Steps. While it may be empty now, you will begin to see it fill out as you are assigned to objectives, tactics, and outcomes!
Using the navigation panel on the left side, select your organization name to be taken to your main company page!
Main Company Page
The main company page is the highest level view of your strategic plan. This is where you're able to see your mission, vision, values, and themes.
Your mission, vision, and values help align your team to who you are and where you're going as an organization. They help serve as your true North and define your organization's objectives and aspirations. To add your mission and vision, you can hover over each and select the pencil icon. To add your values, select the grey + Add Value button.
Themes are priorities, pillars, or buckets of work named for the year ahead in your strategic plan that indicate what "success" will look like. These should be aspirational, brief, and cross functional across teams. When you're ready to add themes, select the blue + Add Theme button. You will then be prompted to name your theme, select an icon (optional), then hit the blue Create button.
Once you have your themes created, you're able to click into them and add a description to give more context and see all objectives rolling up to that theme and how they're doing status and performance wise.
Hierarchy
At the top of your main company page, you will see a tab called Hierarchy. If you select it you will be taken to a visual view of how your objectives roll up to your themes. By clicking into each theme you'll be able to see the objectives and child objectives that roll up into that theme. Once you add in objectives and child objectives, you'll start to see a tree branch view start to form that helps show your team exactly how the work their doing impacts the overall themes. For more information on hierarchy, check out our article here!
Scorecards
Next to the hierarchy tab, you will see a tab called Scorecards. If you select it you will be taken to a screen where you can set up company level scorecards. Scorecards exist to give you a quick view into the outcomes that are most important to you and your team. Think of outcomes in Elate as the real-time business metrics or KPIs that give visibility into the health of your business and/or the progress toward your objectives (i.e. as a business, what are you trying to change or improve). Scorecards bring all of your business’ most important outcomes together (such as ARR, NRR, etc.) in a dashboard view, allowing you to see them all in one place. For more information on scorecards, check out our article here!
Adding Teams and Users
On the navigation panel on the left hand side, you'll see a My Teams and Teams section. The My Teams section will populate with any teams you are a member of for quick access. The Teams section will show all teams for your organization that are public.
To add a team, select the + button next to the Teams header. This will create a new team and you are able to rename it. Please note you are able to add subteams as well by selecting the + button next to the team name you are trying to add a subteam to. If at any point you need to edit a team name or delete the team, simply select the 3 dot menu next to the team name.
When you're ready to add users into your account, select the arrow next to your name in the bottom left corner. From the pop out, select User Management. From here, select the blue + Add New User button at the top of the page. You will be prompted to enter the user's first name, last name, email, title, and organization role.
Organization role will be their permission level in Elate. Admins can view and edit everything in the organization, Members can view anything that is public and edit anything that falls on the team they are assigned to, and View Only have the same permissions as Members except they cannot edit anything. You are also able to add them to a team if you have those set up already. If you don't, you will be able to add them to a team later. Once you've entered all the information, select the blue Add User button. They will then receive an email prompting them to create their account.
Building Objectives
Objectives are high level goals that you want to achieve. These should be aspirational, have a defined owner who will be responsible for providing updates, and have 2-3 measurable outcomes (how will we know we were successful?).
The objective name should be understandable to anyone who reads it. Each objective should contain a verb that describes what you are hoping to change or attain and a specific noun to include what it is you're trying to impact.
There are two types of key results in the Elate platform: outcomes and tactics. Outcomes are measurable metrics powering your objective. Tactics are binary outputs, usually measured on a progress bar of 0-100% complete.
Adding Objectives in Elate
There are a few different places you're able to add objectives in the Elate platform. First, we'll discuss adding objectives from the hierarchy tab.
To begin, navigate to your main company page and then to the Hierarchy tab. Please note that whatever duration you are in in the top right corner is the duration your objective will be. You're able to add objectives here by clicking into a theme and selecting the blue + Add Objective to Theme button. You will be asked to name your objective and select a team responsible. Once you are done, select the blue Submit button. You will then be taken to the objective details page where you are able to finish building out your objective. Here you are able to add outcomes and tactics for your objective as well as add an objective purpose, change the duration, change the team responsible, change ownership, add
The second way you're able to add objectives is directly on the team overview page. To begin, navigate to a team overview page by selecting a team. Please note that whatever duration you are in in the top right corner is the duration your objective will be and whatever team page you are on will be the team responsible for the objective.
Once you are on the team overview page, select the blue Add Objective button in the top right corner. This will prompt you to give your objective a name then select the blue Submit button. You will then be taken to the objective details page where you are able to finish building out your objective. Please note that you will need to link this objective back to a theme but using the Linked Objective section in the bottom right of the objective details page.
Objective Reminders
Automated email notifications (they will also get a notification through Slack or Teams if you have that set up) will go out to objective owners on a set cadence to remind them to update their objectives and to close their objectives when they begin to approach the end of their set duration.
For objective reminders, you have the option of having them automatically sent out weekly, biweekly, monthly, or quarterly at a set time.
For closing reminders, you are able to set how many days before or after the end of the objective or tactic the reminder goes out. Typically, we see these sent out 2-7 days before the end of the duration for the objective or tactic.
These reminders are hardcoded on the backend of the platform. Please reach out to our Support team in the chat if you need to change the cadence of these reminders for any reason (please be aware this may take some time to change).
Plan Execution
You can think of Plan Execution as air traffic control. This power table will show all active objectives across your organization and you're able to slice and dice this data in a way that makes sense for you using filters.
To navigate to the Plan Execution table, use the panel on the left side. Select Plan Execution. You will now see the power table of objectives. The view you are seeing by default will be all active objectives that fall in the duration you're in. You're able to select the dropdown at the top that says Active Objectives to take a look at some other views that are in there by default.
In addition to these, you are able to create your own by using the blue filter icon on the left and setting the criteria you're looking for. Once you're happy with the filters you have in place, you can close the filter pop out and select the blue Save View button. You will be prompted to name your view and select the visibility for it. If you set it to be Private, only you will be able to see this view and if you set it to be public any user in your account will be able to see it. Once you save the view, it will be an option in your view dropdown for quick access.
At the top of the Plan Execution table, you will see tabs for Outcomes and Tactics. The same way you're able to see all objectives here, you are also able to see all outcomes and tactics. You're able to filter and save views the same way here as you did for objectives! To learn more about saved views, check out our article here!
Advanced Reporting
If you have our Advanced Reporting package, keep reading to get started!
You're able to access Advanced Reporting using the panel on the left side. There will be a tab called Reporting with an arrow next to it. Expand that arrow and select Advanced. Please note only admins will be able to access Advanced Reporting.
Advanced Reporting is a great tool to use to review closed objectives, update your team on how active objectives are doing, and as a pre read for meetings allowing you to spend more time moving the needle for your business. You're able to pull in any Saved Views you've created to dynamically update your report with objectives, outcomes, and/or tactics that match the criteria you set.
